Jared Kushner’s hidden genius? To make terrible decisions – yet keep failing upwards

That’s not Kushner’s only victory. While he might have the charisma of a soggy tissue, Mr Ivanka Trump seems to have a knack for failing upwards. In 2007, for example, a 26-year-old Kushner urged his family’s real estate company to pay a then-record $1.8bn to purchase 666 Fifth Avenue, a skyscraper in Manhattan. This turned out to be a terrible decision. It might have had devastating financial consequences for the Kushner family had it not been for a sudden stroke of luck: in 2018, in the middle of Trump’s presidency, a Canadian asset-management company, Brookfield Asset Management, agreed to take a 99-year lease on the building, paying a huge amount of rent upfront. Funnily enough, the Qatar Investment Authority was a major investor in Brookfield and, at the time, Kushner was backing a blockade on the Gulf kingdom. This was all a complete coincidence, and there was no intention of persuading Kushner to reverse his support for the blockade, Qatar has stressed. And, to be fair, the blockade wasn’t lifted until this year. Still, if Kushner keeps running into coincidences like that one imagines his investment firm will do very well indeed.

    1. she (author) is one of those Palestinians who hates Zionist Jews, of which Kushner fits the bill. She was complaining recently about the publicity that the blonde Ukranians are getting, while the world ignores the Palestinian plight... zzzz . Jealous that their publicity oxygen industry has gone elsewhere, and the same monotone TV reporting is now being used to show the suffering of another people,. what, the Palestinian issue is not the centre of the Universe? What, Kushner dared to make peace with 4 arab nations and Israel, and ignore the Palestinians?

This is like the Chareidim who attack the Zionists, claiming that Rommel was about to invade Israel , but by miracle, he was defeated by the British, thus saving the Jewish population in E'Y during WW2. Not surprising, her argumentation is also nonsense Palestine/satmar fiction.

Real Estate is a commodity like anything else, and prices can go up as well as down. Any investment, commercial, financial, real estate etc has its risks. Hindsight is always 20/20.

    3. You missed the obvious again
      Kushner was saved by Quatar

    4. nope - you are twisting her story even more than she does.

Brookfield Asset Management took up a lease on the property. That they themselves had funding from Qatar does not suggest he was corrupt. Where does Qatar get its funding from? Oil and gas, and these are sold to the West, for dollars. So according to you, ultimately he was saved by petrodollars, thanks to Ford motor company etc..

    5. what is a good decision? Can it only be judged by outcome? Or is it based on the facts, information, and judgement on what is available at the time of the decision?
