I find it interesting that they shared such a relationship when it is a well known fact that RYYW viewed the establishment of the State of Israel a wonderful thing (many times in his writing he states this explicitly), something I think RMS would fiercely disagree with considering his position within the Eidah.
There is an interesting biography of the Seridei Eish in this week's (Jan. 13, 2016) Hamodia magazine (Inyan). R. Moshe Sternbuch is mentioned there as well.
