DeSantis’s pleas for hurricane aid raise hackles amid vast partisan divide

Critics have noted that among DeSantis’s first acts after being elected to Congress in November 2012 was to join 66 Republican colleagues and vote against a government aid package for victims of Hurricane Sandy, which killed more than 100 as it devastated north-eastern states.

  1. You know the midrash of Hadrian and the two Jews?
DeSantis is your Jew now. If he held fast to his position of 11 years ago he'd be decried as cruel and unreasonable. But since he's changed his position he's a hypocrite. If he were a Democrat, of course, The Guardian would label him as "having matured his position and grown with experience"

  2. He only changed regarding Florida - he still would veto aid to other states

  3. Uh yeah, he's the governor of Florida. He has to look out for No. 1

  4. So you agree he never changed his views except when it impacts his voters?

  5. Of course. He's a politician. They're all the same. You just keep not wanting to see that.

  6. You dismiss GOP hypocrisy by simply claiming all politicians are hypocrites - that is not justification

  7. No, again I am trying to remind you of the bigger picture - it's like 2 lousy soccer teams are on the field but all you can do is cheer for your team and insult the other one when you really should be complaining that the system that produced 2 lousy teams needs to be changed.

  9. “DeSantis’s pleas for hurricane aid raise hackles amid vast partisan divide” Allow me to relate this to a man’s pleas to his ex-wife in the Mishnah in Kethuboth 87a:
“A woman who impairs her kethubah is not paid unless she first takes an oath. If one witness testifies against her that [her kethubah] has been paid, she is not be paid unless she first takes the oath. from the property of orphans, from assigned property and [from the property of] an absent husband she may not recover [the payment of her kethubah] unless she first takes an oath. How [are we to understand the statement] A woman who impairs her kethubah? If her kethubah was for a thousand zuz and [her husband] said to her, you have already received [the full amount of] your kethubah and she says, I received only a maneh she is not paid [the balance] unless she takes an oath. What is meant by if one witness testifies against her that [her kethubah] has been paid? If her kethubah was for a thousand zuz and when [her husband] said to her you have received [the full amount of] your kethubah she replied, I have not received it while one witness testifies against her that [the kethubah] has been paid2 she is not paid unless she first takes an oath. What is meant by the expression from assigned property? If [her husband] had sold his property to others and she seeks to recover payment from the buyers, she is not paid unless she first takes an oath. What is the explanation of the expression, from the property of orphans? If [her husband] died and left his estate to his orphans and she seeks to recover payment from the orphans, she is not paid unless she first takes an oath. What is to be understood by an absent husband? If her husband went to a country beyond the sea and she seeks to recover payment in his absence, she is not paid unless she first takes an oath.”

The divorced woman in Kethuboth 87a does not have to bring evidence to support her sworn statement that she received nothing or little and that she’s entitled to seize property her ex sold. If the man brings only one witness to support his claim that his ex is lying: the man’s ex wins big time. The ex-wife has the upper hand in the Gamara. DeSantis has the upper hand when he’s governor:

“The Florida governor, having spent millions on migrant stunt, now passes the hat for disaster relief”

““What we hope to do … is stop the shipment of immigrants across state lines by misrepresentation and fraudulent efforts, specifically from Ron DeSantis and the state of Florida,” Miriam Albert, one of the group’s lawyers, said.”

To prove “misrepresentation and fraudulent efforts, specifically from Ron DeSantis” one needs two witnesses, meaning strong proof that will hold up in court. Single witness, meaning weak proof allows DeSantis to go back on Fox News all he wants. Follow Garnel and KA?
