The Supreme Court on Tuesday morning published its decision regarding the Draft Law.
In its decision, which was unanimous, the Supreme Court wrote that, "At this time, there is no legal framework which allows differentiation between yeshiva students and others who are eligible for enlistment."
Whatever happened to the status quo rule? This rubs both ways
ReplyDeleteThe "status quo" rule was always understood by the Chareidim as "We can encroach on the State but the State can't encroach upon us." The Seculars noticed. Too bad.
DeleteSo does that mean University students as well??
ReplyDeleteThe best way to handle this is to announce that all Jews have to serve and if they don't they're subject to the same penalties. Access to state services, health care, housing assistance, etc.
ReplyDeleteAs for universities, universities don't make it a policy to encourage their students to avoid army service so it's not comparable.
