Trump still seems to not understand how bad the coronavirus crisis is

https://edition.cnn.com/2020/04/29/politics/donald-trump-coronavirus-politics-pence/index.html

Any normal President who made a prediction that a miracle would sweep a pandemic away, only to see it infect a million Americans over a couple of months, would be politically shattered. President George W. Bush's failures over Hurricane Katrina look trivial by comparison. Yet Trump is protected in his bubble of unknowingness by a conservative media machine that attacks anyone who contradicts his comments.

  1. It's a problem from both sides.
The liberal left has attacked Trump mercilessly since he emerged as a serious contender for the presidency. Despite many of those attacks being accurate, Trump overcame them because they were laden with heavy doses of hypocrisy. Trump abused women? Hey, didn't Hillary attack women who accused her husband of being a rapist? Trump's a thief? Let's talk about the Clinton Foundation.
Even once he got into power, it didn't stop. When the guy accusing Trump of corruption is himself obviously corrupt, then the average person beings to think "You both suck, but I find Trump speak to me more so I'll support him".
Trump is still using this to protect himself from criticism. Do liberal figures attack him? Yeah, yeah, that's what they always do. Did Stewart or Colbert run yet another piece mocking him? They do that every night. Boring. Besides, who's the alternative? An old white guy with dementia. Whoopee. So no one really pays attention anymore.

    "ANALYSIS/OPINION:

    The new coronavirus is real.

The response to the coronavirus is hyped. And in time, this hype will be revealed as politically hoaxed.

    In
fact, COVID-19 will go down as one of the political world’s biggest,
most shamefully overblown, overhyped, overly and irrationally inflated
and outright deceptively flawed responses to a health matter in American
history, one that was carried largely on the lips of medical
professionals who have no business running a national economy or
    government.

The facts are this: COVID-19 is a real disease that
sickens some, proves fatal to others, mostly the elderly — and does
    nothing to the vast majority.

    That’s it."
