President Donald Trump has often claimed credit for African American economic success, such as touting the African American unemployment rate on his watch. But amid swirling controversies over his tweets attacking Rep. Elijah Cummings and his heavily African American district in Maryland, he took it to a new level during July 30 remarks to reporters at the White House.
"What I've done for African Americans in two and a half years, no president has been able to do anything like it," Trump said. "Unemployment at the lowest level in the history of our country for African Americans — nobody can beat that. You look at poverty levels, they’re doing better than they’ve ever done before. So many things. Opportunity zones. Criminal justice reform — President Obama couldn’t get it done."
When we took a closer look, we found that Trump does have a point about some of the economic and policy details he mentioned. His campaign also pointed to a double-digit funding increase he sought and signed for historically black colleges and universities.
However, Trump overstated his own standing within history. It’s exceedingly difficult for Trump to top the landmark efforts by his predecessors in the White House, including Abraham Lincoln, who fought the Civil War and pushed the constitutional amendments that ended slavery, and Lyndon B. Johnson, who fought for and signed the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act

“Moses spoke to the people, saying, Let men be picked out from among you for a campaign, and let them fall upon Midian to wreak the Lord’s vengeance on Midian. You shall dispatch on the campaign a thousand from every one of the tribes of Israel. So a thousand from each tribe were furnished from the divisions of Israel, twelve thousand picked for the campaign. Moses dispatched them on the campaign, a thousand from each tribe, with Phinehas son of Eleazar serving as a priest on the campaign, equipped with the sacred utensils and the trumpets for sounding the blasts. They took the field against Midian, as the Lord had commanded Moses, and slew every male.” (Numbers 31:3-7).
Midrash Rabbah - Numbers XXII:5
“5. Another exposition of the text, “Avenge the Israelite people on the Midianites; then you shall be gathered to your kin.” (Numbers 31:2). This bears on what Scripture says: “He does not withdraw His eyes from the righteous; With kings on thrones He seats them forever, and they are exalted.” (Job 36:7) XXXVI, 7). What is the meaning of the expression, He does not withdraw His eyes from the righteous? The Holy One, blessed be He, does not withhold from the righteous man what he desires to see with his eyes. This serves to teach you that Moses longed to witness the vengeance upon the Midianites before he died, and begged of the Holy One, blessed be He, that he might behold it with his own eyes. Of Moses it says, “The righteous man will rejoice when he sees revenge; he will bathe his feet in the blood of the wicked.” (Psalms 58:11) LVIII, 11), namely, the vengeance upon the Midianites; He shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked (ib.), namely, of Balaam. Moses said to Phinehas and to the men of war: I know that the wicked Balaam is there, for the purpose of receiving his reward. Before the wolf comes to the flock spread a net for him. If you see that wicked man practicing witchcraft and flying in the air, show him the plate upon which is inscribed the phrase, Holy to the Lord “You shall make a frontlet of pure gold and engrave on it the seal inscription: Holy to the Lord.” (Exodus 28:36). And he will fall down and you will kill him. “Along with their other victims, they slew the kings of Midian: Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian. They also put Balaam son of Beor to the sword.” (Numbers 31:8) for they were practicing witchcraft together with Balaam and flying, but when they beheld the plate they fell upon the rest of their slain.”
Beautiful midrash. I do believe this midrash literally. Balaam underestimated his nemesis Moses. All 5 kings and one evil sorcerer in one campaign with a mere 12,000 soldiers and with no causalities.
As Job says “If they are bound in shackles And caught in trammels of affliction, He declares to them what they have done, And that their transgressions are excessive; He opens their understanding by discipline, And orders them back from mischief. If they will serve obediently, They shall spend their days in happiness, Their years in delight. But if they are not obedient, They shall perish by the sword, Die for lack of understanding. But the impious in heart become enraged; They do not cry for help when He afflicts them. They die in their youth; [Expire] among the depraved. He rescues the lowly from their affliction, And opens their understanding through distress.” (Job 36:8-15)
We need to wage war against our evil enemy Iran, their generals/leaders in Iran, Syria, Iraq etc. fighting so fierce and so determined to annihilate us.
Abraham Lincoln’s civil war had so many casualties and lasted so many years. Armies went to a field opposite each other and charged each other. What do historians say of Abraham Lincoln?
Here's the real problem: no matter what Trump does, liberal snowflakes will either find fault or demand the opposite. If he came out in favour of clean air, you'd all start smoking and idling your cars in your driveway for 30 minutes a day, just to show you're part of the "resistance"
ReplyDeleteThis is why Trump is dangerous to Israel. The more pro-Israel he gets, the more anti-Israel his opponents feel they must become just to show they're "resisting" . So yes, there will be a backlash against Israel eventually but it won't be because of Trump. It'll be because of the small-minded blinding hatred of his enemies. They'll punish Israel just so they can say they're "resisting" Trump!
so obviously you believe trump is godlike and infallible so we shouldn't try and comment on his many serious shortcomings
ReplyDeletewho is worse, Trump or Kamenetsky?
ReplyDeletewhy does it matter?
ReplyDeleteJust wondering if you will change the picture from rav shmuel to reb Donald.

“AOC and what the heck happened to America? AOC and how anti-Semitism is starting to roll off the tongue....She is making headlines this time saying that the Palestinian Arabs have “no option” except to riot, as do all other “marginalized” people in America and around the world. So, she is condoning violence, focusing most emphatically on Israel. Some might say, whatever follows, the blood is on her hands.”
I’ll tell you what happened to America. See http://www.israelnationalnews.com/Articles/Article.aspx/24248
“Socially allied elements' are on the march - shades of the USSR Western elites have mastered the Soviet arsenal of repressions perfectly. That system knew how to break a man and it is back at work.”
This is an old system. Hertz Chumash on “These six cities shall serve the Israelites and the resident aliens among them for refuge, so that anyone who kills a person unintentionally may flee there.” (Numbers 35:15):
“through error. Or, ‘unwittingly.’ The benefit of asylum is to be limited to unintentional homicides. In ancient Greece and Rome, shrines that gave asylum to murders were nurseries of criminals. In the Time of Tiberius, the swarms of desperadoes at shrines had become so dangerous that the right was limited to a few cities. Conditions were not much better when the medieval Church began to offer ‘sanctuary’ to criminals of every description. The Torah alone forbade the granting of protection to the willful offender “When a man schemes against another and kills him treacherously, you shall take him from My very altar to be put to death” (Exodus 21:14). Even if it was a priest who officiated at the Altar, says the Talmud, he is not to escape punishment, if his act was other than unintentional homicide.”
What happened in America---the rise of the crazy Left, condoning violence/crime/Anti-Semitism... Trump is making America great and fighting the crazy Left. Horrible Israel had a Left government with a narrow victory that enabled Oslo and bringing Arafat from Tunisia etc. Netanyahu is making Israel great.
sure he is
