One dead, three injured, in San Diego synagogue shooting

Multiple people were injured Saturday in a shooting at the Chabad of Poway synagogue.
Poway is approximately 20 miles north of San Diego.
The attack occurred at just prior to 11:30 a.m. local time.
All four of the patients were sent to the Palomar Medical Center.
The Daily Beast reported that two children were among those wounded in the shooting. Poway Mayor Steve Vaus told CNN that at least one person was killed in the attack.
Vaus also said members of the congregation engaged the shooter to prevent further violence, and added that the community was targeted by "someone with hate in their heart."
"I can tell you that it was a hate crime, and that will not stand. This community will come together," he said.
Eyewitness reports said one of the injured is the congregation's Rabbi Yisroel Goldstein, who was shot in his hand and lost two of his fingers.
According to the San Diego Sheriff's office, deputies investigated reports of a man with a gun, and a man was detained for questioning in connection with the shooting incident.
"We don't believe there are any other suspects," a spokesperson for San Diego police toldThe Daily Beast.
According to officials, the suspect is a 19-year-old adult white male from San Diego. Initially, he fled the scene, but later surrendered to police.

  1. “One dead, three injured, in San Diego synagogue shooting”
Pains me deeply. Bernie Sanders claims that our beloved Netanyahu is a racist. This is the crooked view of the NY Times and much of the Left.
Racist = a person who shows or feels discrimination or prejudice against people of other races, or who believes that a particular race is superior to another.
Hate crime = a crime, typically one involving violence, that is motivated by prejudice on the basis of race, religion, sexual orientation, or other grounds.
Prejudice = preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience.
    "English prejudice against foreigners"
synonyms: preconceived idea, preconception, preconceived notion; prejudgment
    "male prejudices about women"
    This week’s parsha:
“You shall not render an unfair decision לא תעשו עול במשפט: do not favor the poor or show deference to the rich judge your kinsman fairly. Do not deal basely with לא תלך רכיל [others go about as a talebearer among] your countrymen. Do not profit by the blood of your fellow לא תעמד על דם רעך: I am the Lord. You shall not hate your kinsfolk in your heart. Reprove your kinsman but incur no guilt because of him. You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against your countrymen. Love your fellow as yourself: I am the Love.” (Leviticus 19:15-18).

  2. Daf Hayomi thought
“And when the Lord has brought you into the land of the Canaanites, as He swore to you and to your fathers, and has given it to you, you shall set apart for the Lord every first issue of the womb: every male firstling that your cattle drop shall be the Lord’s. But every firstling ass you shall redeem with a sheep; if you do not redeem it, you must break its neck. And you must redeem every first-born male among your children. And when, in time to come, your son asks you, saying, What does this mean? You shall say to him, It was with a mighty hand that the Lord brought us out from Egypt, the house of bondage. When Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, the Lord slew every first-born in the land of Egypt, the first-born of both man and beast. Therefore I sacrifice to the Lord every first male issue of the womb, but redeem every first-born among my sons. And so it shall be as a sign upon your hand and as a symbol [others frontlet] on your forehead that with a mighty hand the Lord freed us from Egypt.” (Exodus 13:11-16).
I like the view of R. Simeon in Bechoroth 11a:
“Rabina found a difficulty: [In a difference between] R. Judah and R. Simeon, the law is according to R. Judah; moreover, the Tanna [of our Mishnah] [Stated above, that the Israelite sets aside a lamb in order to release the first-birth of an ass from the prohibitions attaching to it, which is the opinion of R. Judah] states the law anonymously in the sense of R. Judah; and still you declare the halachah is according to R. Simeon? But [rather say] that [R. Isaac's statement] accords even with the opinion of R. Judah. For let not [the redemption of the first-birth of an ass] be more stringent than other consecrated objects [which are redeemed with their equivalent value]. Moreover the Torah did not propose [by the law of redeeming] with a lamb to make it severe for him [i.e., that only with a lamb is he allowed to redeem the ass], but, on the contrary, to make it easier for him [If he wished to redeem it with a lamb, even a puny one, it is an adequate redemption. But he need not necessarily redeem with a lamb.]. R. Nehemiah the son of R. Joseph redeemed the first-birth of an ass with boiled herbs of its equivalent value. R. Shizbi reported in the name of R. Huna: If one redeems the ass of his neighbor, it is a valid redemption.”
I like R. Simeon. Why? Plainly the Torah wants the owner of the firstling mule to redeem his mule so as not to necessitate breaking its neck. The Mishnah says that any doubt, however small, there is no enforcing of any laws on firstlings of animals. In certain doubt cases the owner may set aside a lamb and then use the lamb as he wishes. Anyway, who could prove to a bet din that this mule is indeed a firstling, without a doubt to necessitate to break its neck? Also, a rabbi, the bet din itself, could do the redemption with nominal money value. According to R. Simeon, any amount, however small, is suitable for redemption. This is like a person can always redeem his pledge to the Lord with any amount, however small no matter what he pledged or what the priest assessed it “If anyone consecrates his house to the Lord, the priest shall assess it. Whether high or low [lit. good or bad], as the priest assesses it, so it shall stand” (Leviticus 27:14). A person could always seek a nullification of his pledge to the Lord. Pledges to the Lord can be nullified. Certainly not the wedding vows. The K-G garbage heter where Rabbi Greenblatt marries Tamar without a get---is plainly “You shall not render an unfair decision לא תעשו עול במשפט”

  3. How many places besides this site could I get away with posting the following?

Again, allow me to emphasize. This is a serious comment.

After the Pittsburgh shooting, many tried to find meaning in the shooting. Some latched on to the supposed fact that those Jews in Pittsburgh that day who were targeted somehow brought it on themselves. Their crimes, it was stated, was being in a place where there was some kind of ceremony involving an infant adopted by two men. This event had homosexual undertones -- apparently the men were married to each other, living with each other in a homosexual relationship, or some such thing.

In the minds of those sharing with us their findings of divine justice in the shooting, all made sense.

So where have all the analysts gone now when it comes to the San Diego shooting?

It is well known that Chabad outreach centers generally encourage people to attend Shabbos services even if it means driving to Shul. Presumably that was the case in San Diego. Driving is a sin punishable by stoning under some circumstances. A bullet is a kind of stone.

Why aren't the analysts having a field day here, too, informing us of how all is measure for measure?

    You really are a fruitcake.

  5. Kalonymus AnonymusApril 28, 2019 at 4:26 PM

You are making disgusting , crazy comments, on matters you or I have no ability to explain in theological terms.

  6. Kalonymus Anonymus replys to Joseph Orlow “You really are a fruitcake.”
No. I agree with Joseph Orlow.
Allow me to speak my thoughts. So painful the cowardly murders in a synagogue PA and in CA. Doesn’t everyone heartedly agree:
“PM: An attack on the heart of the Jewish people
PM Netanyahu calls on international community to intensify fight against anti-Semitism after synagogue shooting”
This is the holocaust over again. This is the Book of Job. I agree with Joseph Orlow there may be an element of measure for measure here with both synagogues murders on the Sabbath and both ...having questionable practices... This week’s parsha
“You shall faithfully observe all My laws and all My regulations, lest the land to which I bring you to settle in spew you out. You shall not follow the practices of the nation that I am driving out before you. For it is because they did all these things that I abhorred them and said to you: You shall possess their land, for I will give it to you to possess, a land flowing with milk and honey. I the Lord am your God who has set you apart from other peoples. So you shall set apart the clean beast from the unclean, the unclean bird from the clean. You shall not draw abomination upon yourselves through beast or bird or anything with which the ground is alive, which I have set apart for you to treat as unclean. You shall be holy to Me, for I the Lord am holy, and I have set you apart from other peoples to be Mine. A man or a woman who has a ghost or a familiar spirit shall be put to death; they shall be pelted with stones—their bloodguilt shall be upon them.” (Leviticus 20:22-27).

  7. That was my point. Is it possible you misunderstood the comment?

I see - yes, I thought you might be sarcastic but when you said its serious I assumed you were serious.

  11. "Yated Neeman Editor "Moron Chaim Kanievsky" blames growing global anti-Semitism on the State of Israel. He explains that not only hasn’t Israel solved the problem of anti-Semitism, but it is a contributing factor".!

Yf is not Kanievsky. The statement is idiotic regardless of who said it.
But I can't argue with a sick mind.

very nice - the concept of modern Zionism was the result of unending anti-Semitism in the world. Anti semitism existed in the times of the pogroms, the inquisitions, the blood libels, crusades, expulsion form England etc. Only a complete fool would suggest that Zionism has caused the antisemitism of the goyim, which was already predicted in the Torah as being in every generation (Amalek).

  17. Why Israel does not mind Trump's anti-Semitic supporters. It is in the interest of Israel for Jewish Americans and Jewish Europeans to feel unsafe.

"unable to attract Jews from abroad, Israeli leaders must convince Jewish people that they are unsafe and unwanted everywhere - everywhere except for Israel. Just like Trump, Israel's main weapon is fear." -Nora Barrows Friedman

Like I said to Berel, you prefer secular/reform atheists in America, who are intermarried, and support Palestinian terrorists, than even religious Zionists in Israel who keep 100% Shulchan Aruch and Torah.
