Anti-Biden commentators spread false claim that he affixed a Medal of Honor 'backwards' - lies because he deserves it!

 https://edition.cnn.com/2022/07/08/politics/fact-check-biden-medal-of-honor-backwards/index.html

Biden correctly put the medal around Birdwell's neck, as clear footage of the Tuesday ceremony proves. The graininess of the footage that went viral on social media made it difficult to see that the medal was hanging entirely normally near the top of Birdwell's tie.
You can watch clear footage here of Biden giving the medal to Birdwell at the White House. Nothing went wrong during the process.
The false claim that Biden affixed the medal "backwards" was previously fact-checked by Snopes, Newsweek, the Associated Press and others.
The person who operates the obscure Twitter account told CNN in a message on Thursday that they had found the video on Telegram, a messaging and chat app, along with the claim that the medal was backwards. The person said that although they are aware that people have said "it's the way the medal is and it's not backwards," they do not plan to take down the viral tweet.
"I was debating deleting it and I decided not to because it's Biden and he deserves the scrutiny," they said.

Why Trump is wrong to suggest Obama personally kept ‘33 million pages of documents’

Trump said, "President Barack Hussein Obama kept 33 million pages of documents, much of them classified. How many of them pertained to nuclear? Word is, lots!"

Trump is wrong. News reports starting in 2016 showed that the National Archives and Records Administration would oversee transfer of Obama’s presidential records. The agency announced it would digitize the records and that classified records were sent to a facility in College Park, Maryland.

Obama does not have them. We rate this statement Pants on Fire!

Fox News’ Bret Baier Shuts Down Trump: ‘Obama Documents Were Handled Properly’

 https://www.thedailybeast.com/fox-news-bret-baier-shuts-down-trump-excuse-says-obama-documents-were-handled-properly

“There is a process,” Baier explained, noting that President Obama “followed those processes to get those documents to Chicago.” While “there was a lot of grumbling that they weren’t posted online as promised,” he said, “how they were handled was done by that process.”“The President Obama documents were handled properly,” Baier added. “And the question is whether there’s a paper trail and a process for these documents if that’s what the Trump lawyers and the former president are arguing.”Specifically, Trump is claiming that he personally “declassified” all of the documents in question—evoking Michael Scott’s declaration of bankruptcy on The Office—but as Baier also noted on Fox Friday afternoon, it’s not that simple.“Now that is a big power that the president has, a sweeping power to declassify, but there are also regulations that have to, a process has to take place,” he explained. “It’s not like you wave a wand and say all these boxes are declassified.”

Ron Johnson Calls Mar-a-Lago 'Pretty Safe Place' for Classified Documents

 https://www.newsweek.com/ron-johnson-calls-mar-lago-pretty-safe-place-classified-documents-1733514

Senator Ron Johnson, a Wisconsin Republican, called Mar-a-Lago a "pretty safe place" to keep documents with sensitive information on Friday.

"I'm not overly concerned about some top secret information being leaked out," Johnson told ABC News affiliate WSIN, adding that while he is "always" concerned about classified documents, he thinks that the documents in the possession of former President Donald Trump are in a "secure location guarded by the Secret Service."

However, the Secret Service said that it used to conduct physical screenings to ensure no banned items were brought into Mar-a-Lago and to secure the then-president, but it didn't decide who was given access to the residence when Trump was in office, Reuters reported on Saturday.

Republicans foolishly try to roll out the ‘what about Obama’ tack

Update: Just as I was publishing this, Trump issued a written statement that read, “President Barack Hussein Obama kept 33 million pages of documents, much of them classified. How many of them pertained to nuclear? Word is, lots!”

This has all the sophistication of someone who generally writes with crayons, but more importantly, it seemed to hint at a possible concession that Trump did take nuclear-related materials.

Second Update: The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) issued a written statement this afternoon, making clear that Trump's lying.

Mar-a-Lago -- and its owner -- have long caused concerns for US intelligence

 https://edition.cnn.com/2022/08/14/politics/trump-documents-mar-a-lago/index.html

Mar-a-Lago, the stone-walled oceanfront estate Donald Trump labeled the "Winter White House," has long been a source of headaches for national security and intelligence professionals. Its clubby atmosphere, sprawling guest-list and talkative proprietor combined into a "nightmare" for keeping the government's most closely held secrets, one former intelligence official said.

Citing unidentified sources familiar with the investigation, Fox News on Saturday evening reported that the FBI seized five boxes that included information covered by attorney-client privilege as part of its extraordinary search at Trump’s Florida property on Monday. The network also reported that its sources said some records could be covered by executive privilege.

Trump is claiming some secret documents are covered by attorney-client privilege - How does that work? If he illegally discussed secret documents with an attorney it now belongs to him?!

Responding to FBI search, Trump and allies return to his familiar strategy: flood the zone with nonsense

 https://edition.cnn.com/2022/08/13/politics/fact-check-trump-fbi-search-false-misleading-conspiracy-theories/index.html

In response to the FBI search of former President Donald Trump's home in Florida on Monday, Trump and his allies in Congress and right-wing media have returned to his preferred strategy for communicating in a crisis: say a whole bunch of nonsense in rapid succession.

From his battles against impeachment to his effort to limit the political fallout from the Covid-19 pandemic, Trump has attempted to flood the zone with such a quantity and variety of lies, conspiracy theories and distractions that Americans will tune out, turn away or cease to know what is true and not. And he has regularly been joined by a large cast of eager defenders.

Rand Paul Calls for Espionage Act Repeal as Trump Fumes Over FBI Search

 https://www.newsweek.com/rand-paul-calls-espionage-act-repeal-trump-fumes-over-fbi-search-1733488

Senator Rand Paul, a Kentucky Republican, called for repealing the Espionage Act less than a week after the FBI executed a search warrant at former President Donald Trump's Florida residence, with the legal document citing a provision of the federal law that the federal agency suspected had been violated.

Jared Kushner Theories Swirl Over $2B Saudi Money After Trump Mole Claims

 https://www.newsweek.com/jared-kushner-theories-saudi-money-donald-trump-mole-fbi-raid-1733474

Theories about Jared Kushner, Donald Trump's son-in-law, are swirling online following the FBI's seizure of classified documents that were at the former president's Florida estate.

After Newsweek reported that a confidential source had tipped off the FBI about what classified documents Donald Trump was keeping at his Mar-a-Lago home, Mary Trump— Donald Trump's niece—theorized that the mole could be Kushner.

Kushner and his wife Ivanka, Trump's eldest daughter, both served as senior advisers during Donald Trump's presidency.

"I think we need to look very hard at why Jared got $2 billion," Mary Trump said, referring to the investment Kushner secured from a fund led by by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman about six months after leaving the White House.

Prayer and angels

Sanhedrin (44b) R. Eleazar said: One should always offer up prayer before misfortune comes; for had not Abraham anticipated trouble by prayer between Beth-el and Ai, there would not have remained of Israel's sinners a remnant or a survivor. Resh Lakish said: He who devotes his strength to prayer below, has no enemies to overcome above. R. Johanan said: One should ever implore mercy that all Heavenly beings may support his effort in prayer so that he may have no enemies on high.

Hashkofa alert

Why are people so concerned today with criticizing gedolim whereas we find that Chazal often looked to uncover sins that  are not stated explicitly in the Torah

For example they say Adam was a heretic Avraham's lack of faith caused the Jews to  go into exile in Egypt and Yosef was almost seduced and lacked bitachon or that Yehoshua wanted the Jews to rebel  and caused the nation to sin

Update:

Got three types of explanation. 1) We don't understand Chazal and why they did anything and we are such inferior creatures we can not possibly even question the activities of a Gadol. When I mentioned the idea of a Gadol committing a crime such as bank robbery. The answer was a Gadol would never do such and if he did he is not a Gadol. 2) As a result of the Haskala attacking authority figures, it was collectively decided never to criticize Gadolim. 3) Gedolim today are lesser people and any criticism detsroys their authority while in earlier generations they were much bigger and were not significantly damaged by criticism

According to these views we can not utilize the conduct of Chazal and rishonim in this matter! But clearly if a Gadol actual made a mistake - according to consensus of rabbinic authorities or is making a chillul HaShem - it can be noted

Sanhedrin (44a): Rav Naḥman says that Rav says: What is the meaning of that which is written: “The poor man speaks entreaties, but the rich man answers with impudence” (Proverbs 18:23)? “The poor man speaks entreaties”; this is a reference to Moses, who addressed God in a tone of supplication and appeasement. “But the rich man answers with impudence”; this is a reference to Joshua, who spoke to God in a belligerent manner.
The Gemara asks: What is the reason that Joshua is considered to have answered God with impudence? If we say that it is because it is written: “And he laid them out before the Lord,” and Rav Naḥman says that this means that Joshua came and cast the spoils down before God as part of his argument, this is difficult: Is that to say that Pinehas did not act the same way in the incident involving Zimri and Cozbi? As it is written: “Then stood up Pinehas, and executed judgment [vayefallel], and the plague was stayed” (Psalms 106:30), and Rabbi Elazar says: And he prayed [vayitpallel], is not stated; rather, “and he executed judgment [vayefallel]” is stated, which teaches that he entered into a judgment together with his Creator. How so? He came and cast Zimri and Cozbi down before God, and said to Him: Master of the Universe, was it because of these sinners that twenty-four thousand members of the Jewish people fell? As it is written: “And those that died by the plague were twenty-four thousand” (Numbers 25:9).

Rather, Joshua’s belligerence is seen from this verse: “Why have You brought this people over the Jordan” (Joshua 7:7), as if he were complaining about God’s treatment of Israel. This too is difficult, as Moses also said a similar statement: “Why have You dealt ill with this people? Why is it that You have sent me?” (Exodus 5:22). Rather, Joshua’s belligerence is seen from here, from the continuation of the previously cited verse in Joshua: “Would that we had been content and had remained in the Transjordan” (Joshua 7:7).

§ With regard to the verse that states: “And the Lord said to Joshua: Get you up; why do you lie this way on your face?” (Joshua 7:10), Rabbi Sheila taught in a public lecture: The Holy One, Blessed be He, said to Joshua: Your own sin is even worse than that of the other Jews who sinned, as I said to the Jewish people: “And it shall be when you have gone over the Jordan, that you shall set up these stones” (Deuteronomy 27:4), and you have already distanced yourselves sixty mil from the Jordan River, and you have yet to fulfill the mitzva.

After Rav Sheila finished his lecture and went out, Rav, who had been present but remained silent, placed an interpreter alongside him, who would repeat his lecture in a loud voice so that the public could hear it, and he taught: The verse states: “As the Lord commanded Moses His servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the Lord had commanded Moses” (Joshua 11:15). This indicates that Joshua could not have been guilty of a grave offense such as delaying in setting up the stones.

If so, what is the meaning when the verse states: “Get you up,” hinting that Joshua was in fact responsible for some transgression? The matter should be understood as follows: God said to Joshua: You caused the Jewish people to sin, as had you not dedicated all the spoils of Jericho to the Tabernacle treasury, the entire incident of Achan taking the spoils improperly would not have occurred.

Breitbart Slammed for Doxxing FBI Agents Involved in Mar-a-Lago Raid

 https://www.newsweek.com/breitbart-slammed-doxxing-fbi-agents-involved-mar-lago-raid-1733401

Conservative media outlet Breitbart is facing criticism for publishing the names of FBI agents involved in the raid of former President Donald Trump's home.

Breitbart published a leaked version of the Mar-a-Lago search warrant, including the names of an FBI special agent and supervisor agent, on Friday. The agents both signed their names on receipts for property seized from Trump's home, including boxes of classified documents that reportedly may have included nuclear secrets. A redacted version of the warrant, which omitted the names of the agents, was officially released hours later.

Commentators soon took to Twitter to accuse Breitbart, an outlet previously managed by former Trump adviser Steve Bannon, of doxxing—the practice of identifying a person or releasing personal information about them, often with the aim of enabling targeted harassment. Some also accused Trump of leaking the warrant to Breitbart in hopes of targeting the agents.
