The Rapid Rehab of Vladimir Putin

President Trump campaigned on ending the war in Ukraine, and his negotiators on Tuesday began the process with a meeting in Saudi Arabia between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and his Russian counterpart. Global politics can be an ugly business, but the looming rehabilitation of Vladimir Putin is especially hard to take.

Mr. Trump said last week after a phone call with Mr. Putin that he’s convinced the Russian dictator wants “peace.” He didn’t say what kind of peace Mr. Putin has in mind, though if history is a guide it won’t be what most Americans understand by the word.

  1. I don't necessarily agree with Trump, But this seems to be more about bringing economic stability by lowering gas and energy prices if Russia is allowed to export again. This will help bring inflation down in the west.
It's not going to bring long-term peace in Europe.

  2. People want to compare this to Munich but it's not. It's Yalta, where Churchill and FDR sold out Eastern Europe to the Soviets to prevent WW3 from starting 5 minutes after WW2 ended.

    1. You mean when the British agreed to Hitler's demands and crowed about how there would now be peace?!
Yes history indicates what a great strategy it is to give into bullies!
Even your example of Yalta almost led to nuclear war
In sum Don't reward aggressors not even Trump!

  3. Likely it will be the Geneva or Helsinki Summits
