Orthodox politicians have reacted with fury after a court in Israel ruled that secular online weddings must be recognised by the state in a move that could have widespread implications for millions of Israelis.
Judges in the district court of Lod in Central Israel stated that the country's interior ministry must accept the legitimacy of online marriages performed by a local authority in the US state of Utah, even when the couple being married is in Israel.
WEll maybe if the Orthodox leaders didn't make it such a miserable experience for so many people...

ReplyDeleteThis is really not that controversial. If the couple went to Cyprus and got hitched, the government would recognize it. This is the same thing, except they save on plane ticket prices.

ReplyDeleteWhy is it nonsense? The pandemic has allowed video to replace live meetings at almost every level. It makes no sense to say "Well, I can meet my bank manager and give her instructions over video" but not "I can't witness a civil wedding over video"
