Tzadik or people pleaser?

I came across a book written to stop a serious psychological problem of subordinating ones own needs to always give to others. As I went through the book it struck me is that the nebach they were trying to save sounded like a tzadik. The question thus is what is the difference between a People Pleaser and a tzadik?

  1. There are a couple of differences.
One person puts effort into others because he really wants to save him but sets limits. He doesn't empty his bank account, he doesn't abandon his family's needs, he looks out for his health and safety. He wants to help, he strives to help but he sets a line he will not cross because he also doesn't want to destroy himself and his life. That's the tzadik.
The other puts no limit on it and is willing to destroy himself because of this idealism. He'll ruin his life, his family and everything around him for his quest. That's the nebach.
