Fake News - Bibi and Trump colluded to trick Iran?!

 https://mishpacha.com/wars-easier-to-start-than-finish/

Did President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu collude to deceive Iran by creating the impression that the US opposed the IDF taking military action while negotiations over a nuclear deal were still underway? Or did Netanyahu act alone, fearing that Trump would strike a deal with Iran that would garner international support, making it impossible for Israel to attack Iran without becoming a pariah state? There is a lot of spin in both directions. The truth may lie somewhere in between, but it’s irrelevant now.

The mixed messaging serves both American and Israeli purposes. Israel has an interest in demonstrating that Trump and Netanyahu are in sync. Trump is playing a more difficult hand. He boasts of Israel’s military prowess, pleasing his pro-Israel constituency, while his insistence that America is not involved in Israeli strikes and his call to Iran to resume negotiations reassure his domestic right-wing base that he is adhering to his policy of keeping the US out of foreign entanglements.

Regardless, Israel has made significant progress in restoring its deterrent posture with a diversified and well-planned preemptive strike against Iran, which doomsayers claimed Israel could never achieve alone, while also absolving Trump of any blame. Assuming that Iran lacks the desire or capability to restart talks, Trump is no longer at risk of damaging his reputation as a dealmaker by either entering into an agreement that Iran would never honor or being forced to admit that the negotiations had failed.

  1. Maybe you are sleeping but I don't see any comments on the fact that the United States just bombed the heck out of Iran and all of their nuclear facilities BH BH

    3. You remind me of my leftist Israeli cousin who's convinced that the whole Iran attack is just a plot by Bibi to make people forget that there are still hostages in Gaza. Yup, this whole thing since October 7 is just a plot by Bibi to stay in power and destroy the country.
Meanwhile my friend in Netivot assures me that Tzahal has not forgotten about Hamas and the hostages.

    6. not sure what needs clarifying.rationality means I can anticipate what will happen. Trump delights in being unpredictable i.e. irrational. Sherlock Holmes is widely viewed as a super rational mind. His deductions require that actions are predictable

    7. AI says "In the Art of War, Sun Tzu emphasizes deception as a fundamental principle of warfare, stating, "All warfare is based on deception"

Holmes would need to decode the deception of a clever criminal. It's not about being irrational, it's using deception and strategic ambiguity.

Some criminals were never caught, eg jack the ripper.
It's not just predictable - there are unobvious clues too, which are less decipherable.

    8. Also, Rambam was a super rational thinker. In his Moreh lNevuchim he discusses his observation of retrograde motion of some planets in the solar system. He is unable to explain them, and rejects the theory of epicycles as being irrational. It's took another 300 years for Copernicus to come with a radically new model, a heliocentric system which then explains the apparent retrograde movements.
It's not that Rambam wasn't super rational. It's perhaps that Copernicus was more creative in his thinking.

    9. Rational or irrational, it matters if the job gets done. Trump may act unpredictably to you because you have a way of thinking and assume everyone rational follows it but he clearly disagrees.

    10. Garnel yes if the trains run on schedule everything is justified. Principles and morality are for the weak. The superior being can do anything he wants as long as he stays in power and provides a profit. That is Trumpism - he is beyond the law because he produces power. The principals of morality and ethics are only devices to control the masses. As has been noted authoritarians are inherently corrupt. But there are always people like yourself who are supporters because he gets the job done. The end always justifies the means.

    11. Liberals have twisted things so much that advocating for free speech and thought is, for them, a crime.
Trump may be erratic but he's erratic with a plan, things work out and it drives liberals nuts.
