Billions at stake: WZO vote sees Orthodox-liberal struggle, opportunity for N. American Jews

“Generally speaking, the Haredi parties in Knesset do not send delegates to the Zionist Congress, but this new [American] party, Eretz HaKodesh, is associated with the United Torah Judaism party, and they managed to win 25 out of 152 seats, a very strong showing for a new party. All of a sudden, the liberal movements became a minority for the first time, while Haredi Jews, who make up only about 5% of American Jewry, have more than 16% of the vote.”

  1. Rav Kanievsky ztl was in favour of voting in the wzo. I remember Rav Feldman was opposed but then accepted his Daas.
Is there anything more than political interest here?
Both Rav Kanievsky, (the steipler Gaon's son), and Rav shach's son Reb Ephraim served in Tzahal in 1948 war.

  2. The majority of non-religious American Jews don't care and don't participate but if you tell Chareidim to vote for something, they move like a herd.
