However, the scholarship its members use to justify their decisions has been determined to be sorely deficient. The IBD has published 13 of its “psakim,” which are available for anyone to read on its website. These “teshuvos” were panned by a host of leading poskim, including Rav Hershel Schachter and Rav Mendel Zilber, who said that these supposed psakim are actually error-laden misreadings and misunderstandings of Rishonim and Acharonim.     A lot of people, including the same Rav shachter, and Israeli rabbanut rejected Dayan Sherman's ad hoc "BD ", and the adultery /mamzerut it produced.
    So there is a problem, for all sides

    My thinking was that just like techelet has gradually been adopted, so might something like afkinu. But they are not comparable, at least not on the downside. There exists no issur of using the modern murex dye on tziztit. There is a risk of applying afkinu. Nevertheless, it may eventually gain some traction despite being opposed by gedolim.
