Iranians Say Trump’s Intervention Brought Destruction, Not Liberation

 https://time.com/article/2026/03/10/iran-war-trump-us-israel-regime/

After nearly two weeks of U.S.-Isreali airstrikes, Iranians describe a country exhausted and uncertain. Bombing campaigns that targeted military sites and security infrastructure have also damaged police stations, fuel depots and power facilities.

Residents who cheered the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on Feb. 28 in the first wave of strikes, say they are confounded by Trump’s suggestions that the assault may end with his regime still in place.

"Trump either didn't have a clear strategy to begin with, or it was based on wrong data," said Mahmood, the CEO of an IT company in Tehran. "None of what he has done has helped the people of Iran. Our situation isn't any better.”

Despite the scale of the bombardment, the Islamic Republic’s core institutions appear to have held firm. At night, its security forces and loyalists fill the streets of major cities, first to mourn the “martyrdom” of the elder Khamenei, then to laud the appointment of his son, Mojtaba, whose ascension to Supreme Leader was announced Monday.

  1. I don't doubt that if Time had been around in 1945, they'd interview Nazis to give the official opinion of Germans on the Allies' conduct during the war.
From the start the message was clear. We'll knock out the IRGC and the government. You take to the streets and take over the country.
America and Israel did their part. Now it's up to the people and they're not rising to the challenge.

    1. “Never,” Robert Pape, a political scientist at the University of Chicago who studies air power and regime change, replied when I asked whether what Washington was doing in Iran had succeeded elsewhere. “Bombings have never led people to take to the streets and topple their leader.”“In order to save the pro-democracy protesters, you’ve got to be right there,” Pape told me. “You have to have troops on the ground.”

    2. Gaenel so you think the average unarmed Iranian should walk over to a heavily armed soldier and say surrender to me because that is what Trump said ?!
The only clearly armed people are the Kurds and Tru,mp doesn't want them according to his most recent declarations

    3. It worked in most of the former Soviet-occupied Eastern European countries. Yes, the average huge 100 000 strong mob of Iranians should walk over to the soldiers and overwhelm them. Either they're desperate or not. If they're not, then the US just wasted its time.

    4. Aside from Trump nobody seems to believe it will happen.
There was no threat from Russia to the former members of Soviet Union so the situations are not comparable!
Yes USA wasted time and money and lives on a poorly expressed but clearly hoped for goal that is not reasonably obtainable by the tactics used

    5. I think the difference is the level of humanity.
When Romanians marched on their parliament, when Poles and Czechs did the same, their armies didn't have the cruelty to fire on their own citizens. Trump assumes Islamists are the same and if a huge mob approaches the Parliament, they'll drop their guns and leave.
The Islamists won't. They'll murder millions of their own to stay in power. Yet the people still have to try.
