A Perfect Storm

 https://quillette.com/2025/10/28/a-perfect-storm-israel-gaza-palestine/

But it is not only the Quran with its tales of the 7th century that is responsible for modern Muslim antisemitism. The 19th century saw a resurgence of antisemitism as an offshoot of the traditional Christian Jew-hatred in various parts of Europe, alongside the flowering of nationalist movements that generally castigated “the Other.” And there was no more prominent “Other” than the Jew. European nationalist and antisemitic tropes gradually penetrated the Ottoman-ruled Middle East, generating Arab nationalism while adding a new European layer to the existing base of Muslim detestation of and contempt for the Jews. The 1840 Damascus Affair, in which Jews were falsely blamed—and tortured and a number of them were killed—for murdering two Christians to obtain blood for ritual purposes, exemplifies this importation of European antisemitic tropes to the Muslim Arab world.

Generally, as long as Islam’s Jews were submissive and obedient nothing much happened. The rise of Zionism and the movement’s gradual empowerment in Palestine changed all that. The Jews living in the Arab lands increasingly came to be seen by their Muslim neighbours and rulers as actual or potential allies of Zionism; in June 1941, Muslim mobs rampaged through Baghdad, killing and raping hundreds, and six to seven years later similar mobs converged on Jews in Morocco, Aleppo, Aden, and other sites around the Arab world.

But somehow the demonstrators don’t see Hamas for what it is. One major agent in the whitewashing efforts has been the Gulf emirate of Qatar, with its jihad-supporting broadcasting network, Al Jazeera. Qatar has poured many billions of dollars into the West and especially into its university campuses to market a rosy-spectacled version of Islamism and has even channelled millions to Netanyahu’s inner circle of aides. (In Israel, it is rumoured that Netanyahu himself has long enjoyed largesse from Doha). Over the years, Netanyahu has directly, personally facilitated Qatar’s subsidies of Hamas, which bankrolled the tunnels, rockets, and Kalashnikovs used on 7 October and since, as well as the mosques and schools that dispensed the organisation’s ideology

Muslim antisemitism: Dangerous but modern

 https://blogs.timesofisrael.com/muslim-antisemitism-dangerous-but-modern/

Yet even while recognizing the severity of this phenomenon, several clarifications must be made. First, not all Arabs and Muslims, whether in Israel, the Middle East, or Europe, hate Jews. It is no coincidence that Israel has already signed peace treaties with six Arab and Muslim countries, and there is active discussion of additional agreements. Second, not all hostility toward Israel, especially among Palestinians, stems from antisemitism. Sometimes it does, as we saw clearly and horrifically with Hamas, but often it arises from the political, historical, or national conflict itself. This is still a dangerous phenomenon, which Israel has every right to resist, but it is not necessarily antisemitic, and recognizing that distinction is crucial.

And there is another important point: Contrary to common perception, antisemitism in the Arab and Muslim world is neither inherent nor ancient, but rather a relatively modern phenomenon. Extensive research by leading scholars of Islam and the Middle East, among them the late Bernard Lewis, Emmanuel Sivan, and Esther Webman, shows clearly that this phenomenon took shape only in the late 19th century. It did not originate with Muhammad or with the Quran.

So when and why did the relative tolerance of Muslims toward Jews come to an end? And when and under what circumstances did antisemitism in the Arab and Muslim world begin to rise? The answer lies in the late 19th century, when several processes occurred at once.

In sum, antisemitism in the Arab and Muslim world is a dangerous but modern phenomenon. It is not eternal, not ancient, and not an inevitable fate. Precisely for that reason, it can and must be confronted, accurately and responsibly. Countries with which Israel has made peace have not only ceased to threaten it but have also opened their doors to Israeli visitors. Such a distinction is not only a matter of fairness toward a vast, complex, and diverse Muslim world, but also a way to avoid falling into the trap of despair – the feeling that “the whole world is against us” –and, just as importantly, to preserve a measure of hope.

Christian Nationalism and Modern Antisemitism

 https://blogs.timesofisrael.com/christian-nationalism-and-modern-antisemitism/

While we are often reminded to “Never forget,” many of us were never taught this history. Understanding the legacy of Christian nationalism and its role in shaping antisemitic attitudes is crucial in recognizing when the Church uses its power to harm marginalized groups—and in taking action. Addressing Christian nationalism’s ongoing influence can help foster genuine interfaith reconciliation and prevent history from repeating itself.

Throughout history, Christian antisemitism has fueled discrimination, violence, and exclusion, from early Church doctrine to the horrors of the Holocaust. Despite Vatican II and various Protestant reforms, antisemitic attitudes persisted in Christian societies long after World War II. Today, Christian nationalism has emerged as a significant force in the U.S. and beyond, often fueling conspiracy theories, political extremism, and religious intolerance. While many Christian institutions have distanced themselves from historical antisemitism, elements within Christian nationalist movements continue to promote antisemitic ideas, sometimes disguised as political rhetoric, theological resistance to reconciliation, or conspiracy theories.

Christian nationalism is a political ideology that merges religious identity with national identity, claiming that a nation must be governed by Christian values to fulfill its divine purpose. This ideology has gained increasing influence in the United States, Europe, and parts of Latin America and Eastern Europe, where it is often associated with far-right politics and hostility toward religious minorities, including Jews.

Trump officials cite white supremacists in bid to end birthright citizenship

 https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2026/03/30/trump-birthright-citizenship-supreme-court-case/

The administration builds its arguments on an 1800s campaign, led in part by a Confederate officer, that scholars say was steeped in anti-Black and anti-Chinese racism.

The Trump administration argues the 14th Amendment does not apply to people in the country illegally or on temporary visas. If the high court agrees, and reverses the long-held interpretation, it could render hundreds of thousands of children born to immigrant parents stateless.

Trump administration attorneys cite Morse in their Supreme Court brief to argue the disputed idea that commentators in the 19th century widely agreed that the Constitution “exclude[s] the children of foreigners transiently within the United States” from qualifying for citizenship.

Salyer said the challenge of mounting a credible argument against birthright citizenship — which has long been accepted as legal bedrock — may explain why the administration relies so heavily on Morse, Wharton and Collins.

איזהו מקומן

Tefillah is associated with Korbanot. Tefillat Shacharit is divided into several sections. The first section involves reciting the daily Korbanot as an attempt to reenact what was, and for which we are praying, to be reinstated.[1] The power of this recital is directly related to our understanding.

This section concludes with a chapter of Mishnayot, Eizehu Mekoman. This unique chapter of Mishnayos from Masechet Zevachim presents a summary classification of  the Korbanot. This summary is cryptic and confusing for the uninitiated, anyone who hasn't invested in studying Kodshim.

The attached, a carefully planned and organized chart with concise notes was composed to help clarify the differering details in each Mishna, along with various unclear references, such as:

אלו ואלו נשרפין

שיירי הדם

שינה באכילתן

As mentioned in the notes, a chapter of Mishnayot was included so that we approach Tefillah after learning oral Torah. Besides relating to and providing an overview of Korbanot, this is the only chapter in the entire Shas Mishnayot without even one disagreement.

This chart was created by a young avreich, Rav Nosson Neta Weiss Shlita, and repeatedly peer-reviewed until it reached the current state of superb clarity. It serves as an introduction to Korbanot as it renders the chapter readily accessible and meaningful with relatively minimal effort.

It is his sincere desire that these charts be distributed in durable form far and wide לזיכוי הרבים and to dramatically increase the power of כאילו הקריבו  recital considered as if these Korbanot were actually brought up.

May this learning help to focus our yearning for the rebuilding of the Beit Hamikdash speedily in our days ושם נעבדך ביראה כימי עולם וכשנים קדמוניות

Important request:

A donation of 100 NIS covers printing 100 copies, enabling another 100 of our brothers to recite with clear understanding. With sufficient funds, costs drop, enabling greater distribution.

Invoking faith in wartime, Pete Hegseth breaks norms and worries critics

 https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2026/03/29/pege-hegseth-christianity/

The defense secretary is upending decades-old norms, current and former leaders say, with some cautioning that his proselytizing violates the Constitution and undermines troop cohesion.

Every month at the Pentagon, Hegseth hosts evangelical worship services that legal experts say are unprecedented. His social media profile and public comments routinely espouse his understanding of Christianity, which is one that would dominate American life and cast those who disagree with him as God’s enemies. He has brought clergy from his small Christian denomination to preach at the Pentagon, including a prominent pastor who says women shouldn’t have the right to vote.

On Wednesday at the Pentagon, Hegseth prayed for U.S. troops to inflict “overwhelming violence of action against those who deserve no mercy … We ask these things with bold confidence in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus Christ.” Later that day, his department announced military chaplains would no longer wear their rank on their uniform and instead would wear religious insignia.

BBC interviews Chabad author as book becomes national bestseller

 https://www.israelnationalnews.com/news/424752

“Letters for Life," exploring the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s guidance on emotional wellbeing, entered Argentina’s top 10 bestseller list, gaining traction in stores nationwide and drawing attention from global media, including a BBC interview with the author.

The book’s popularity follows the increased interest in the Lubavitcher Rebbe caused by Argentina’s philo-Semite president Javier Milei. Milei has visited the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s Ohel several times on his trips to New York and speaks of the impact the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s teachings have had on his life.

Seeing the book’s international success, BBC journalist Talat-Farooq Awan contacted the author, Levi Shmotkin, to discuss the reasons for the book’s wide appeal. The interview played on the BBC’s nationally syndicated Sunday morning radio program.

Trump ‘I like people that like to listen to my success’

 https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/5805705-trump-miami-saudi-investment-summit-joke/?tbref=hp

President Trump on Friday evening joked that he surrounds himself “with losers” because he “like[s] people who listen to my success” in public remarks at a Saudi-backed investment conference.

Trump was responding to a question at the Future Investment Initiative (FII) summit in Miami about leadership skills he believes are missing in the world.

“Well, it’s winning, you’ve got to win,” the president told the crowd, before adding that there are “mostly losers, fortunately.”

“I always like to hang around losers actually because it makes me feel better,” he continued. “I hate guys that are very, very successful and you have to listen to their success stories. I like people that like to listen to my success.”

Trump added later that he was “only kidding, I want to say that — eh, sort of.”

Saving Neshamos in Eretz Yisroel & Kimcha DePischa:

Saving Neshamos in Eretz Yisroel & Kimcha DePischa

This is a crucial pre-Pesach appeal (similar to what was just posted here on Thursday: https://daattorah.blogspot.com/2026/03/callousness-towards-bloodshed.html ).

We have massive opportunities - presented by our extremely successful expansion of הצלה work in Eretz Yisroel - rescuing many girls from falling into the exploitative Army milieu, including many girls who literally have no one else to help save them.

At the same time, we're not yet out of the debts recently incurred in serving in the forefront (without exaggeration) of efforts to combat Physician-Assisted murder - aka Assisted-"Suicide" - in NY State.  [This work is far from over, requiring initiatives on multiple fronts to maximize lifesaving damage-control, both in and out of NY State.]

We're not more obligated than the rest of the tzibbur. It's well past time for others to carry more or their own responsibilities on these burning matters.

More Good News:

For the next few days, we're able to offer an opportunity to fulfill the mitzvah of Kimcha DePischa as well, in synchronization with our hatzolah work saving girls in Israel.

Anyone able to perform their fair share of this exciting, diverse work for hatzolas nefashos - both spiritual and physical - is asked to reach out:

G-d weakens Nature to Make Miracles

Rabbeinu Bachya (Shemos 17:13) “Joshua weakened, etc.” The word “he weakened,” is testimony that G’d does not totally destroy and make ineffective the forces of the horoscope, and that He does not force nature not to pursue its assigned tasks unless there is an overwhelming and urgent need for this. The reason that He does not destroy the system is simply that he Himself created it. Why should G’d uproot His own handiwork? Nonetheless, G’d from time to time “outwits” the system in order to save someone whom He wants to save; He continues to operate His system of reward and punishment without destroying the system of the laws of nature in the process.

Even Fox News poll shows Trump’s Iran war is unpopular

Trump Floats Renaming the Strait of Hormuz After Himself

 https://www.wsj.com/livecoverage/iran-war-middle-east-news-updates/card/trump-floats-renaming-the-strait-of-hormuz-after-himself-OhOnPqHivr5rXNfMKFt9

President Trump renamed the Gulf of Mexico and applauded efforts to add his name to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Could a Middle East waterway be next?

During a speech here Friday, the president said Iranian leaders “have to open up the Strait of Trump,” a reference to the partially closed Strait of Hormuz.

“Excuse me, I’m so sorry. Such a terrible mistake,” he added, jokingly. The media, he said, would report the comment as a verbal slip. “There’s no accidents with me,” he said.

Trump suggests renaming Hormuz - 'Strait of Trump' during speech confirming negotiations with Iran

 https://www.jpost.com/middle-east/iran-news/article-891446

US President Donald Trump on Friday said that the US is negotiating with Iran over the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

During a speech at the FII Priority Summit in Miami, Trump said that the US is "negotiating now, and it would be great if we could do something, but they have to open it up."

He then proceeded to joke about renaming the waterway "Strait of Trump" as a condition to end the war.

Israel Is Rationing Its Best Interceptors—and Iran’s Missiles Are Getting Through

 https://www.wsj.com/world/israel-is-rationing-its-best-interceptorsand-irans-missiles-are-getting-through-130cf14d?mod=WSJ_home_mediumtopper_pos_2

Israel has begun rationing its use of high-end missile interceptors, hoping to preserve stocks of its most capable defensive weapons in the face of daily Iranian barrages that haven’t let up through four weeks of war.

A pair of Iranian ballistic missiles recently scored direct hits on the towns of Dimona and Arad after Israel tried and failed to intercept them with modified versions of less advanced munitions.

US can only confirm about third of Iran's missile arsenal destroyed

 https://www.jpost.com/middle-east/iran-news/article-891429

The United States can only determine with certainty that it has destroyed about a third of Iran's vast missile arsenal as the US and Israeli war with the country nears its one-month mark, according to five people familiar with the US intelligence.

The status of around another third is less clear, but bombings likely damaged, destroyed, or buried those missiles in underground tunnels and bunkers, four of the sources said. The sources spoke on condition of anonymity, given the sensitive nature of the information.

One of the sources said the intelligence was similar for Iran's drone capability, saying there was some degree of certainty about a third having been destroyed.

Sirens sound in Beersheba as IDF says ballistic missile was intercepted with no injuries; attack comes hours after terror group warned it was ready to intervene militarily

Yemen’s Houthis launched a ballistic missile attack at southern Israel on Saturday morning, triggering sirens in Beersheba and surrounding areas, in the first offensive from the Iran-aligned group since the start of the war with Iran.

In a statement, the Houthis claimed responsibility for the attack, saying they had targeted “sensitive Israeli military sites” with a “barrage of ballistic missiles.”

The IDF said one ballistic missile fired from Yemen was successfully shot down by air defenses.

Can Israel and the U.S. Destroy Iran’s Drones and Missiles Before Running Out of Interceptors?

 https://ideas.tikvah.org/mosaic/picks/can-israel-and-the-us-destroy-irans-drones-and-missiles-before-running-out-of-int

For some time, people thinking about the changing nature of military conflict—especially those examining the recent experiences of Israel and Ukraine and what they might imply for a confrontation between the U.S. and China—have been speaking about the problem of “missile math.” This new form of arithmetic primarily involves two calculations: will one side run out of missiles, rockets, and drones before the other runs out of the interceptors used to shoot them down? Or, more likely, vice versa? And does the high cost of anti-missiles systems, compared with the low cost of drones and rockets, bestow an untenable economic cost on the defenders?

Trump said Iran’s nuclear program was ‘obliterated.’ So why is he looking to strike again?

 https://edition.cnn.com/2026/02/24/politics/nuclear-program-iran-trump-strike

In March, the US intelligence community assessed that Iran was “not building a nuclear weapon.”

In June, the Trump administration nevertheless launched airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear program.

And today, it might strike Iran again over its nuclear ambitions — this time despite President Donald Trump having assured repeatedly that those June airstrikes had “obliterated” its program.

But if Iran actually is that close to having material to make nuclear bombs, that would represent a truly miraculous recovery — at least, to the extent one believes Trump. After all, it was just eight months ago that Trump declared Iran’s nuclear program to have been “obliterated.”

CNN broke the news that an early US intelligence assessment did not back up Trump’s claims. It had found the strikes did not destroy the core components of Iran’s nuclear program and likely only set it back by months. (The New York Times reported something similar.)

But Trump has continued to say the nuclear program was obliterated.

Trump: Iran 'running out' of missiles, launch sites, as strikes 'decimate' regime's capacity

 https://www.jpost.com/middle-east/iran-news/article-888693

Iran is running out of missile launchers and areas to launch missiles from, United States President Donald Trump claimed in an interview with Politico on Tuesday.

As the US’s Operation Epic Fury and Israel’s Operation Roaring Lion continue to pummel the Iranian regime, Trump stated that the regime is being “decimated.”

While he predicted that Iran would “keep lobbing missiles for a while,” he asserted that “they’re running out and they’re running out of areas to shoot them, because they’re being decimated.”

Pious people don't need Doctors

Ramban (Vayikra 26:11) In general then, when Israel is in perfect accord with G-d, constituting a large number, their affairs are not conducted at all by the natural order of things, neither in connection with themselves, nor with reference to their Land, neither collectively nor individually, for G-d blesses their bread and their water, and removes sickness from their midst, so that they do not need a physician and do not have to observe any of the rules of medicine, just as He said, for I am the Eternal that healeth thee. And so did the righteous ones act at the time when prophecy existed, so that even if a mishap of iniquity overtook them, causing them sickness, they did not turn to the physicians, but only to the prophets, as was the case with Hezekiah when he was sick. And Scripture states  of Asa, king of Judah, by way of rebuke, Yet in his disease he sought not to the Eternal, but to the physicians. Now had the practice of consulting physicians been customary among them, why should the verse mention as a sinful act Asa’s consulting the physicians, since his guilt was only because he did not [also] seek G-d? But the verse can be compared to someone saying: “That person did not eat unleavened bread on the Festival of Passover, but instead ate leavened bread.” For he who seeks the Eternal through a prophet, will not consult the physicians. And what part do the physicians have in the house of those who do the will of G-d, after He has assured us, and He will bless thy bread, and thy water, and mostly with food and drink, warning [the patient] against [eating] certain foods and commanding him to eat others. Thus also the Rabbis said: “During all the twenty-two years that Rabbah reigned as head of the Academy at Pumbeditha Yoseph did not call even a blood letter to his house” as he, being a righteous person, was protected directly by G-d and needed no physicians, and they also say by way of proverb: “A gate which is not open for the commandments i.e., a house wherein the commandments are not observed]is open for the physician.” This is also the meaning of their saying: “People should not have to take medicaments, but they have become accustomed to do so.” That is to say] had they not accustomed themselves to takingmedicines, people would become sick according to the degree of punishment corresponding to their sin, and would be healed by the will of G-d, but since they accustomed themselves to medicaments, G-d has left them to natural happenings. This is also the intent of the Rabbis’ interpretation: “And he shall cause him to be thoroughly healed. From here you deduce the principle that permission has been given to the physician to heal.” They did not say that “permission was given to the sick to be healed” by the physician, but instead they stated by implication that since the person who became sick comes to the physician to be healed, because he has accustomed himself to seeking medical help and he was not of the congregation of the Eternal whose portion is in this life, the physician should not refrain from healing him; whether because of fear that he might die under his hand, since he is qualified in this profession, or because he says that it is G-d alone Who is the Healer of all flesh, since after all people have already accustomed themselves [to seeking such help]. Therefore when men contend and one smites the other with a stone or his fist the one who smote must pay for the healing, for the Torah does not base its laws upon miracles, just as it said, for the poor shall never cease out of the Land, knowing beforehand that such will be the case. But when a man’s ways please the Eternal, he need have no concern with physicians.

Trump slams ‘terrible’ Fox News polls

 https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/5803424-trump-slams-fox-polls/

President Trump took a swipe at Fox News and its polls while speaking on the network’s “The Five” on Thursday, saying he “hates” them.

“I hate Fox polls,” he said on the show. “Honestly, whoever does your polls are terrible.”

The latest Fox News poll shows Trump with a 41 percent approval rating and a 59 percent disapproval rating.

He said he’s spoken to Rupert Murdoch, media mogul and chair emeritus of Fox Corp. and News Corp., over the polls.

“Rupert Murdoch has promised me for years he’s going to get rid of your pollster, but he doesn’t do it,” he said. “I don’t get it, but your Fox polls are terrible.

Amid war, Iranian hardliners ramp up once-taboo calls to seek nuclear bomb

 https://www.timesofisrael.com/amid-war-iranian-hardliners-ramp-up-once-taboo-calls-to-seek-nuclear-bomb/

Killing of security chief Ali Larijani has made it more difficult for less hawkish figures to push back on IRGC hardliners’ support for building a bomb and bolting NPT, sources say

The debate among Iranian hardliners over whether Tehran should seek a nuclear bomb in defiance of an escalating US-Israeli campaign is getting louder, more public and more insistent, sources in the country say.
There is no plan to change Iran’s nuclear doctrine yet, and Iran has not decided to seek a bomb, one of the sources said, but serious voices in the establishment are questioning the existing policy and demanding a change.

The US-Israeli attacks on Iran, which came about a month into indirect nuclear talks between Washington and Tehran, may have changed the equation, convincing Iranian strategists that they have little to gain by forswearing a bomb or staying in the NPT.

The U.S. and Israel are pounding Iran’s missile-launching sites, hitting some over and over across almost a month of war. But Tehran’s missiles keep flying.

Iran has shifted to firing from deeper inside its territory with longer-range missiles, military analysts and former U.S. officers said, after airstrikes early in the war inflicted a heavy toll on Iranian bases and truck launchers near the Persian Gulf coastline. Iran is firing far fewer missiles now—down to around a dozen a day—but they have turned them against less-defended targets in Israel and Gulf Arab states, causing greater damage in some cases.

Even in small numbers, the weapons have helped Tehran achieve its goals—prolong the conflict, raise the economic costs on oil-exporting Gulf countries and in the U.S., and survive to fight another day.

Bigotry among young conservatives has Republicans on edge

 https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2026/03/26/gop-feuntes-trump-antisemitism-nationalism/

Many Republicans dismiss such party members even as white supremacists like Nick Fuentes gain popularity, but there’s growing unease at their presence in the rank and file.

At a conference on antisemitism this month in Washington, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) warned that he has seen more prejudice against Jewish people “in the last 18 months on the right than at any point in my lifetime,” and that “it is gaining real purchase, especially with young people.”

The fight against antisemitism is winning with “folks in this room with some gray or salt-and-pepper in their hair,” Cruz said.

“But in the college classroom,” he added, “I’m a lot less certain.”

Callousness Towards Bloodshed

On the topic of Chillul HaShem, but more directly related to an all too common absence of vigilance - often abject callousness - towards Sakonas Nefashos and basic Derech Eretz, before Yom Tov is a time to emphasize the need for elevated vigilance regarding road safety - for drivers, pedestrians, and especially those exceptionally dangerous scooters.

Living in Monsey, I very frequently witness such recklessness - in driving and scooting in particular - from those whose external appearance is clearly mechazeik the Chillul HaShem factor.

Just yesterday, my non-Jewish cab driver very narrowly avoided a crash with someone who opted to attempt to make a wild turn that was, shall we say, as "artistic" as it was potentially lethal.

With all of the bloodshed and threats our community is facing, perhaps we need to look in the mirror.

To those aware of common attitudes towards Sakonas Nefashos, at least one message cannot be more obvious, as per the Gemara in Brachos  דף ה עמוד א, רש"י פישפש ולא מצא - as elucidated by Rav Chaim Volozhin in Ru'ach Chaim on Avos 4:11 -  תשובה ומעשים טובים כתריס בפני הפורענות. Also see Nefesh HaChayim 3:29.

We need to look at sins corresponding to the tribulations we're facing. This isn't very complicated. If we're frequently tolerating endangerment of lives, is it a surprise that we're facing unrelenting threats to our safety? That selection of Ru'ach Chaim concludes with a chilling warning: If we refuse to heed the Divine wake-up call - even if we repent for sins others than those HaShem is signaling us to rectify - the yisurin will not stop.*

* In addition, the recklessness of local officials - and their enabling, influential community "leaders" - in allowing hyper-greedy, self-centered real-estate developers to build narcissistically, without any regard for public safety, and thereby contribute to the casualty count on the roads - is another ongoing avlah for which many in our community must answer.

On a positive note, I found the opportunity to make a small kiddush HaShem by tipping the driver, extra, after expressing sympathy for what he encounters regularly on the roads.

Having said that, this is just one area of urgently needed improvement. There are several additional acute communal shortfalls, clearly corresponding to increasing community endangerment, that need to be rectified immediately.

Overall communal silence in confronting the institutionalization of murder -- be it in the form of Physician-Assisted poisoning of the medically vulnerable ("Assisted "Suicide")**, or abortion-at-whim legislation, including Trump Administration support for homicidal abortion drugs (that every irresponsible mother or father can obtain and abuse) -- are prominent examples of communal failures - breaches that also constitute an ongoing public Chillul HaShem which receives almost no attention - beyond in a few select venues, including our weekly Thursday radio program, LevinAt11, at 11pm.

** Such "Aid-In-Murdering" legislation passed in NJ by a single vote - Assemblyman Clinton Calabrese from Passaic - for which Aguda's Avi Schnall is inexcusably responsible. This was documented via the audio of Rabbi Heshie Hirth (Z"L), on the day of passage, which we circulated shortly before Schnall's election to the NJ Assembly.  Similar legislation also passed this year in NY - without any public outcry on the floor of the Legislature from any of the frum Democratic legislators. This all reflects on our failure as a community - which is primarily due to dereliction of leadership, including media, failing to properly alert and mobilize the tzibbur, in time.

In Eretz Yisroel, they face similar challenges. Why, for one topical example, do we see frequent demonstrations against the infringements of the Lite-Rail - and practically not a peep against the institutionalization of the abortions of over two million Jewish babies - far more than murdered by all external enemies combined, despite the formidable frum influence within the government?

Nor do we see very many such demonstrations against that which physically and spiritually endangers the next generation of Jewish mothers, namely, the institutionalization of the female draft of "nonreligious" girls - who don't have the figment of recourse to the "religiosity exemption.". The "religious exemption" is an Israeli military draft exemption which has, in any case, in recent years become far less accessible to girls from weaker backgrounds, or without political protexia.

The fact that, overall, communal leadership is derelict in speaking out against these glaring iniquities, among others, arguably even worse (pertaining to LGBTQ), is not a potair, but rather a mechayev to do what we each can to rise to the occasion to hold back חרון אף השם.

May we merit the Ge'ulah by - at least very belatedly - combating its impediments - as if it really makes a difference, because it truly does.

Rabbossai,

Anyone interested in partnering in our work is asked to reach out today. We're not out of the debts recently incurred in serving in the forefront (without exaggeration) in combating Physician-Assisted murder in NY.  Simultaneously, we have massive opportunities - presented by our extremely successful expansion of הצלה work in E.Y. to save girls from falling into the exploitationist Army milieu.  We're not more obligated than the rest of the tzibbur. It's well past time others carry more or their responsibilities on these issues.

Thank you all,

Rabbi Leiter 771-215-8892 // 03.721.3337 from E"Y.

Fox News Poll: Voters oppose action in Iran but give US military positive marks

 https://www.foxnews.com/politics/fox-news-poll-voters-oppose-action-iran-give-u-s-military-positive-marks

Forty-two percent support the current U.S. military action against Iran, and 58% oppose it, including nearly 4 in 10 who are strongly opposed.

The partisan divide is stark: 77% of Republicans support the effort compared to 12% of Democrats and 28% of independents. Within the GOP, support ranges from 90% among MAGA supporters to 52% of non-MAGA Republicans.

Voters largely agree that the most important U.S. objectives in Iran should be reducing its ability to support terrorism in the region (70%), ending Iran’s nuclear weapons program (69%), and protecting the flow of oil from the region (66%). A slim majority says the same about bringing about regime change (53%).

Trump disapproval highest in both terms: Fox News poll

 https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/5801661-trump-disapproval-rating-fox-poll/?tbref=hp

President Trump’s disapproval rating hit its highest rating across both of his terms, according to a new Fox News poll.

The survey, released Wednesday, found that 59 percent of registered voters do not approve of Trump’s handling of the presidency, with 47 percent who say they strongly disapprove. Another 41 percent said the opposite, with roughly half of that number, 22 percent, saying they strongly approve of his job performance.

Respondents also largely disapprove of Trump’s foreign policy agenda, with 62 percent who disapprove overall and 64 percent who specifically said they do not approve of his handling of the conflict with Iran.

Trump is baffled that Iran won’t end the war he started

 https://edition.cnn.com/2026/03/26/politics/trump-iran-peace-talks-us-troops-analysis

Iran doesn’t seem to be susceptible to the art of the deal.

President Donald Trump is desperate to sell the story that the Islamic Republic is ready to end the war.

But there’s no public sign yet from Tehran that it’s poised to help him walk back a crisis that he triggered by obliterating his own previous diplomatic effort nearly four weeks ago.

Israelis set to lose even more sleep as clocks to move forward for daylight saving

2 a.m. to become 3 a.m. in the early hours of Friday; daylight saving time to end on October 25

Israel makes the move nearly three weeks after the US, where most locations changed the clocks on March 8.

This does not scare the Iranians: Joe reacts to Hegseth's 'We negotiate with bombs' remarks

Hegseth’s ‘bombs’ remark sparks war backlash

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s praise for the U.S.-Israeli air campaign in Iran and his remark that “we negotiate with bombs” has triggered intense criticism as the war enters its fourth week. His comments came alongside President Trump’s public suggestion that Hegseth was the first to push for military action, fueling speculation of blame-shifting amid stalled diplomacy and economic fallout from the Strait of Hormuz blockade. The episode highlights tensions within the administration and raises questions about the political and strategic direction of the conflict.

Mystery of Trump's ignorance of Iranian War

Netanyahu Went to War With Iran While Relying on an America That Doesn't Exist Anymore

 https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/2026-03-25/ty-article/.highlight/netanyahu-went-to-war-with-iran-while-relying-on-an-america-that-doesnt-exist/0000019d-268b-d77a-a7ff-ffeb7fe10000

Benjamin Netanyahu bought into the myth of America's omnipotence. He's now learning its limits, after starting an Israeli-U.S. war on Iran with Donald Trump, whose administration evinces a historic level of incompetence

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spent a large portion of his adolescence in the United States when the country was at the height of its postwar power. The young Bibi graduated in 1967 from Cheltenham High School in suburban Philadelphia (where the students are now trying to remove Netanyahu's picture from the school's alumni hall of fame).

Israrl only land controlled by G-d not by Mazzel

Drashos Haran (04) That sin which is cause for apprehension on the Blessed One's part as potentially resulting in the destruction of the Jews is idol worship, to which the sin of the golden calf was similar in character. For the other transgressions do not arouse the Blessed One's wrath to such a great extent; idol worship is to be much more feared in this regard. And there is more reason for apprehension of this sin in the desert than in the land of Israel. For the Jews knew that the other lands were under the ordinance of stars and constellations, as our sages state: "All who live in the land of Israel, it is as if they have a G-d; all who live outside the land of Israel, it is as if they do not have a G-d." This is because the other, gentile lands are under the ordinance of heavenly plenipotentiaries, an ordinance which cannot be changed except through miraculous, Heavenly intervention. Therefore, if one lives outside the land of Israel, because he is under the ordinance of a star or of a constellation, his prayer is not so readily accepted as it would be if he lived in the land of Israel, which is not under the dominion of a chief, an officer, or a ruler, but of the Blessed One Himself,

If Trump’s diplomacy fails, the Iran war could get much worse

 https://edition.cnn.com/2026/03/26/politics/trump-iran-peace-talks-us-troops-analysis

The disconnect casts doubt on Trump’s claims this week that a breakthrough could be imminent, even as momentum inexorably grows toward a dangerous escalation of the conflict — with thousands of US troops on their way to the region.

Nursing homes falsely label patients schizophrenic to sedate them, OIG says

 https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2026/03/19/nursing-homes-dementia-abuse-antipsychotic-drugs/

Watchdog agency said facilities intentionally misdiagnose residents with dementia to hide inappropriate use of antipsychotic drugs.

Many U.S. nursing homes are creating phony schizophrenia diagnoses to hide their use of dangerous antipsychotic drugs to subdue dementia patients, a government watchdog report said Thursday in its sharpest finding yet over a persistent form of alleged abuse.

Most of the drugs are not approved for patients with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia because they increase risk of falls, strokes and death. But doctors can prescribe them “off-label,” and caregivers and families regularly resort to them if a patient is violent and poses a threat to themselves and others. Resident advocates have long warned they are overused.

What a GOP loss in Trump’s Mar-a-Lago district says about the midterms

 https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2026/03/25/democrats-midterms-special-election-wins/

Gregory, a first-time candidate and fitness business owner, defeated Jon Maples, a Republican endorsed by President Donald Trump and aligned with his policies. The two were going head-to-head in a special election for a district that includes the president’s Palm Beach home, Mar-a-Lago. The Democrat’s win was an upset: Despite Palm Beach County leaning left, this district was a red enclave, with Republicans holding a significant voter-registration advantage and the Republican who vacated the seat last year winning it by 19 percentage points in 2024.

Since the start of 2025, Democrats have used special elections to flip a dozen state legislative seats, while Republicans have not flipped one. When off-year elections in 2025 are included — in which Democrats dominated both statewide and downballot contests in Virginia and New Jersey — the number of flipped seats rises to 30.

This, coupled with Trump’s slumping approval ratings, has Democrats hopeful that the November elections could be a chance to sweep Republicans out of power in the House and alter control of many state legislatures.
