Trump’s suggestions that international borders can be redrawn — by force if necessary — are particularly inflammatory in Europe. His words run contrary to the argument European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are trying to impress on Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump is a negotiator. He starts with a maximalist demand in order to get the other side to agree to his actual demand.
ReplyDeleteIn this case, he wants a US military presence to guard the Arctic (Canada's not doing it) and control the eastern entrance to the Northwest Passage (Canada's not doing it). And that's what he'll get.
