Trump says the migrant wave has caused a lack of affordable housing in America. But a range of other factors are truly to blame.
The migrants’ impact on housing is harder to measure, however, because real estate is all about location, location, location. What’s true from a national perspective isn’t necessarily what’s going on in neighborhoods. Many of the new immigrants are landing in places like Logansport; Charleroi, Pennsylvania; and Springfield, Ohio—cities whose populations have shrunk in the last 50 years. In other words, they’ve flocked to locations where a little lift in property values wouldn’t be so bad, but rather an indication of a neighborhood comeback.
Sure, sure, and the crime and violence problem in Europe has nothing to do with Muslim immigrants either.
