AP FACT CHECK: Trump’s false claim about Apple plant
President Donald Trump tried to take credit Wednesday for opening a plant that’s been in business for years.
He also tried to blame House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for closing Congress, but she didn’t.
TRUMP: “Today I opened a major Apple Manufacturing plant in Texas that will bring high paying jobs back to America. Today Nancy Pelosi closed Congress because she doesn’t care about American Workers!” — tweet early Wednesday evening.
THE FACTS: Neither happened.
Trump visited a factory in Austin, Texas, that has made the Mac Pro for Apple since 2013.
Apple announced in September that it would continue having the Mac Pro line made in Austin, after the Trump administration agreed to waive tariffs on certain computer parts from China. It also plans to expand its already deeply rooted business in Austin and said Wednesday it has started construction of its new campus in the city.
Tim Cook is just letting Trump lie about Apple
Trump keeps saying Apple just opened a plant in Texas. The problem: The facility in question has been around since 2013.
On Wednesday, Cook accompanied Trump, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, and the president’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, on a tour of a manufacturing plant in Austin, Texas. Both at the plant and after, the president suggested that the plant had just opened and that it was the result of his presidency. No one at Apple corrected him, even though it’s not at all the case: The plant, which is run by a company called Flex, has been making Mac Pro computers there since 2013.

ReplyDeleteI’m a PhD economist. I’m writing now a scholarly article on manufacturing and production economics. I read closely the NYS, fake news, piece.
Lie typical fake news stuff: “The plant has been making Apple computers since 2013.”
See, in the 2012 Reuters piece, they hoped to open a plant in 2013. What happened?
“When Apple decided to make the Mac Pro in the United States in 2012, Mr. Cook went on prime-time television to announce it. Apple had previously assembled virtually all of its products in China. Yet when production of the computer began in Texas, it quickly ran into problems, in part because of a lack of nearby suppliers.”
All they opened in 2013 was an assembly only for a low-volume item: “Flex’s plant in Austin employs about 500 workers, who assemble one of Apple’s lowest-volume products.”
Very different today. “Earlier this year, Apple unveiled a new version of the Mac Pro, with a starting price of $6,000. Shortly after, Apple and the White House began a months long public dance over where the computer would be made.”
Wow what Trump did: he opened a major new Apple Manufacturing plant in Texas that will bring high paying jobs back to America.

“So the indictments, though clearly anticipated, are just a terrible shame, the result of cynical politicians, despicable prosecutors who do not even have the basic professionalism or human decency to reschedule a family vacation at a moment of historical import, and a holier-than-thou justice system that cannot distinguish between real corruption and criminality, on the one hand, and impolitic political nonsense on the other.”
wow you are the only one making such claims - where did you get them?

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for posting this. I knew that he called in regularly and ranted, but I'd actually never heard a session before.
ReplyDeleteListened to it erev Shabbos while doing errands, and OMG I couldn't stop laughing. Best entertainment I've had in a long time -- hearing the three of them getting progressively more uncomfortable, unable to control their bucking bronco guest or get him off the line, hearing the accusations fling out of Pres. Donald's mouth and crescendo into wild incomprehensibility.
It's a piece of performance art, this. Truth stranger than fiction, truly.

ReplyDeleteLo yilbash!
According to you, being prey to wild animals is part of the galus and 3 oaths, so fighting them would be a violation of those oaths. So why are they shooting wild dogs in Beit Shemesh?
