Father, daughter drowning fuels anger at Trump migration policies

A shocking photograph of a Salvadoran man and his baby daughter drowned in the Rio Grande fueled a surge of emotion around the world Wednesday — as US Democrats furiously denounced Donald Trump’s immigration policies.
“Trump is responsible for these deaths,” said Beto O’Rourke, one of several Democratic White House hopefuls who took to Twitter to lash out at the president.
Trump retaliated by seeking to pin the blame on Democrats in Congress, saying “if we had the right laws, that the Democrats are not letting us have, those people wouldn’t be coming up, they wouldn’t be trying.
“They want to have open borders and open borders mean crime, and open borders mean people drowning in the rivers,” Trump told reporters.
The intertwined bodies in the viral photo are those of asylum-seeker Oscar Alberto Martinez, 25, and his 23-month-old daughter, Valeria. They drowned Sunday while trying to cross the Rio Grande from Mexico into Texas, while the child’s mother watched helplessly from the river bank.

  1. So what's your alternative? Just open the borders wide? Let anyone come across who wants to? And then what? How do you house them? Feed them? How do you deal with the chaos? And what do you tell the folks who waited in line because that was the law? That they're losers?

    what utter blood libel,
idiots trying to sneak into a foreign country, and think they can walk on water.
There are hundreds of boats of african and mid-east migrants trying to cross the English channel to get to the UK, and some of these drown. What has that got to do with Trump or any other Western leader?

it hasn't had any impact, since they are still trying to smuggle their way in. If these people died in S. America in one of the many rivers there, would anybody even notice?

  6. I'm well aware of his views. But I am also aware you didn't answer my question: what's your alternative?

  7. it is the panic from concerns that trump will succeed in blocking all immigrants which is making them desperate - much more than in the past

there needs to be a cogent and clear path - trump is creating only fear with his crazy statements and policies

that clearly makes his base happy

"El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele said his country bears responsibility for the recent drowning deaths of a father and his toddler daughter who had been attempting to cross into the United States, saying that security and economic hardships he inherited are driving people to make the perilous journey..."
