It was just a phrase at the end of President Obama’s news conference on Tuesday, but it was a stark reminder of a far-reaching shift in how the United States views the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and how aggressively it might push for a peace agreement.
When Mr. Obama declared that resolving the long-running Middle East dispute was a “vital national security interest of the United States,” he was highlighting a change that has resulted from a lengthy debate among his top officials over how best to balance support for Israel against other American interests.
This shift, described by administration officials who did not want to be quoted by name when discussing internal discussions, is driving the White House’s urgency to help broker a Middle East peace deal. It increases the likelihood that Mr. Obama, frustrated by the inability of the Israelis and the Palestinians to come to terms, will offer his own proposed parameters for an eventual Palestinian state.[...]

To date, nothing Obama has said, done or proposed has come to fruition. Not a one.
ReplyDeleteCongress, et al, will not sell Israel out because it is not in their best interest or the interest of America to do so.
Obama has made his bed. He hasn't improved relations with Europe, he made them worse. His nuclear summit was a sham, when most important allies the UK and Israel don't send their A team.
His Africa policy only entrenches the genocide of Bashir in Sudan. Imagine being to the LEFT of Jimmy Carter on that issue, who politely excoriated him for supporting Bashir and his party even as the janjaweed are massing troops.
Does anyone believe the Israelis will give up what they must to make OBAMA look good?
Very disturbing. It is reminiscent of Germany is the 1930's.
ReplyDeleteObama is making Israel a scapegoat for all the hate generated by US torture and other mistakes made in the panic on terrorism. He is taking the terrorist rant of "America and the Zionists" and giving it credence.
He is ignoring the fact that Israel gave up Gaza and agreed to a "Palestinian Nation" just for the hope of peace that never materialized. He is ignoring the Scuds that recently arrived in Lebanon from Syria, Iran's nuclear program and their promises of Israel's obliteration. He is ignoring the fact that Mideast terrorists are getting everything they want and more, one step at a time.
He has obliterated the US policy of not caving in to terrorist demands.
Worst of all, he is making Jews the scapegoat again. It may be America's turn this century.
Keep your bags packed. We made need to settle Lebanon with Jewish American refugees soon.
Obama is not ignoring any of the above facts..He is a Muslim and is in well knowledge of Israel's vulnirability and will use it to help the Arab world..
