The Ukraine minerals deal is a perfect metaphor for Trump’s foreign policy

 https://edition.cnn.com/2025/02/21/politics/trump-ukraine-mineral-deal-analysis/index.html

Donald Trump isn’t the only president who knows a bad deal when he sees one.

Volodymyr Zelensky’s refusal to sign away nearly half of his country’s rare earth minerals for very few future guarantees is one of many reasons why Trump has been driven into a rage at his counterpart in Kyiv.

As with his plan to relocate all Palestinians out of Gaza so the US can build a “riviera” of beach resorts, the president’s motives appear to be rooted more in extracting the best potential monetary return for the United States than in equitably solving a murderous conflict that endangers the world. Trump is reflecting skepticism among his base voters toward the tens of billions of dollars of military and financial aid that the Biden administration sent to Ukraine after it was illegally invaded by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s forces three years ago. But Trump’s transactional approach represents a shattering of foreign policy values pursued by the United States for decades, including the principle that mighty nations should not invade smaller ones, which Washington enshrined in the United Nations charter.

    Yup, just like China.

Look, after WW2, did America just leave Europe and Japan? After investing billions into rebuilding Europe and Japan, did America just walk away? No, there were expectations. America would be the de facto leader of NATO. American military products would be prferred by NATO over European and other competitors. Europe and Japan would have favourable economic agreements with America. There was to be a return on the investment in the Marshall Plan.
Fine, America has provided billions in support to Ukraine. They want something back. And while China is busy Belting and Roading around the world to establish control of international trade, America is now trying to secure its position. Why is that a crime?

    1. One was unwritten expectations. Trump is demanding it in writing. That's a major difference you are too stupid to understand. Maybe the cold weather in Canada is affecting you

    2. Trump perhaps understands that if you want to be a superpower, sometimes you need to act like a supermamzer
      Look at china and Russia.
Then look at Britain, which gave away it's empire, and allowed itself to be taken over by Muslim. And it no longer has an effective army.

    3. Xyz, you don't understand economic empires.
UK has found 10 years gas supplies underground. But because they're fixated on Net zero, they're happy to ban fracking and instead import gas and coal from Qatar and America and anywhere else and the households have to pay double the price for the same carbon output. That is woke stupidity.

    6. You didn't understand what I wrote. I specifically said "supermamzer" to point out lack of morality in the superpower jungle.

    8. When Great Britain was a huge Empire, they carried out atrocities around the world, stole resources from other countries etc. But they are a smaller concern now. They evenplan to give up some strategic island to Mauritius for China to take over eventually.
