Without mentioning Biden, Trump praised his “national security team” for getting the deal over the line.
“We have a deal for the hostages in the Middle East. They will be released shortly. Thank you!” wrote Trump on Truth Social.
David Friedman, U.S. Ambassador to Israel under Trump’s first administration, offered his “enduring thanks” on Fox News to his “old friend President Trump for getting this done.”
For four years, Biden has done everything he can to coddle Iran. Since October 7, Biden did everything he could to deny Israel an actual victory. And suddenly, after Trump issues his threat there s deal and Biden takes credit.
ReplyDeleteSince Oct 7, Biden has given unprecedented military and diplomatic Aid to Israel. Since Oct 7, Biden has been lenient on Bibi (unlike Clinton, Obama, Bush-Baker) - not taking revenge for Bibi's tough behaviour.
DeleteOn top of the $3.8Bn regular aid, they have given much more than this to Israel, as well as military back up, provision of THAAD, diversion of warships to the Gulf to threaten Iran, and a campaign against the Houthis in Yemen.
Trump has had no part in the negotiations, they have been done by the Biden admin.
Biden is not perfect, but he has been one of the greatest friends and supporters of Israel in American history. To badmouth him I think is something akin to Biden Derangement Syndrome.
Every step of the way, Biden has tried to push back against Bibi but showed repeated weakness when Bibi insisted.
DeleteRemember Blinken tweeted on October 8 - so sorry about what happened to you Israel but don't you go responding!
Before every major Israeli offensive, Biden and Blinken warned Israel that the offensive would fail and result in massive casualties on both sides. Before Rafiah, biden announced that if Israel went it, that's it! No more support!
Of course we remember him defending Israel from those missle strikes from Iran but then pivoting and announcing that he was not permitting Israel to respond.
And then there's the weapons he withheld or delayed the deliveries of. His efforts to prevent Israel from invading Lebanon to destroy Hezbollah.
Yesh, he did lots of positive things and I've heard in a few places that, in fact, he's the only pro-Israel official in the administration with the rest, including 2G Anthony Blinken, being very anti-Israel and pro-Iran which means he pushed back against all of them but still, he made enough statements that provided support and succor to Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran.
Hostage negotiations were going nowhere. Then Trump said "All hell to pay" and suddenly a couple of weeks later we have an agreement.
Trump is America first. So it remains to be seen to what degree he will help or hinder Israel. Plus he still has a bone of contention against netanyahu for chickening out from the soleimani assassination.
DeleteTrump is not America first. Trump is Trump first. Look at the effort he put into the Abraham Accords which have nothing to do directly with America but oh the legacy it got him. If kicking Iran in the nuts gets him remembered as an important US president (except to DT) then he'll do it.
DeleteI think it was Connor cruise O'Brien, the famous author of the book about Israel called The siege, who said the first year of presidency is always the hardest - for Israel. So I guess this might be the case with Trump. Although with Obama I think it was all hard.
