Netanyahu's funding for Hamas via Qatar enabled October 7 invasion, Shin Bet reveals

The Shin Bet also revealed that SIM cards and sensors along the border were activated ahead of time but were ignored.

While the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) took a significant amount of responsibility for the disasters on October 7 in its report published unexpectedly on Tuesday, it also implicated Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by implying that his policies regarding the Temple Mount, the treatment of Palestinian prisoners, and the judicial reform led to Hamas’s decision to initiate its long-planned invasion.

  1. Ironically, Bibi will be condemned for doing what the Left always wanted him to do - coddle the Arabs and work towards giving them a state of their own.

    1. And so he should be.

    2. It's interesting that he fell into what I call the Shimon Peres Fallacy.
Now it's important to remember that Peres didn't come up with Oslo because he wanted to harm Israel or Jews. He had a belief that has some basis in fact. People with some wealth are generally less violent because they have something to protect. As the theory goes, if I live in a slum with nothing, then I have no reason not to turn to violence. If I have a house and lawn in a nice neighbourhood, I don't want violence because I might lose everything when retaliation comes. So give the Arabs prosperity and they will want to protect that and become peaceful.
He didn't reckon on the Arab attitude of "We'd rather live in burnt out ruins and misery than live peacefully next to Jews" because that doesn't make any sense to a rational Western mind.
Bibi fell into the same trap. Give Hamas a little country, bog them down with the burdens of political administration, slowly grow the Gazan economy and show the Arabs that things will get better if they just stop firing rockets at Israel. It should've worked but he too missed out on Arabic irrational hatred.

    3. What he fell into is not clear.
He wanted to avoid PA unity so. it was acceptable to keep Hamas in Gaza, to avoid a 2 state solution.
They also fell into a group think with all the security people saying that Hamas are deterred, . Lieberman gave an interview and the Israeli press about a year ago describing how the Israeli system is very conformist and they parrot each other when they come up with a new ideology. Meanwhile, they are not accepting of outsiders who haven't been through the military ranks to give opinions.

    4. Again, the idea was that Hamas would see that attacking Israel was pointless so they might as well work on building their own country.
And that's what the military told Bibi over and over again. The rockets are for show. Hamas knows that Iron Dome protects and they can't harm us. They're just doing it to show they're still tough.

    5. There hasn't been an independent investigation into what went wrong and there probably won't be and even if there was they wouldn't release all the information.
It's possible that intelligence was infiltrated by Iran, which would explain why they ignored all the signs and data .

    6. There will be no independent investigation because everyone is guilty and no one wants to be pegged. The Shin Bet report is a sign of things to come. Yes, lots of bad things happened and it was a systematic failure. Everyone else is guilty but not us.
