National-religious rabbi slams blind obedience to rabbis

YNET

Rabbi Dr. Benny Lau has called on the national-religious public to reduce its dependence on rabbis and become "free". According to Lau, the blind obedience which has infiltrated the Zionist-religious society in recent years is an inappropriate phenomenon stemming from a "paralysis of fear".

  1. Sounds just like the Reform.

  2. Daas Yochid, there is a big difference between what Dr. Benny Lau said and the premise of the Reform movement.

The Reform movement was about cutting the Jewish people from the Torah. Dr. Benny Lau wants to reduce blind obedience to the rabbis.

These are two opposite things. The Torah is about freedom under G-d's Law, not about blindly following whatever the rabbis say.

  3. Yes, and the Hareidim dress just like the Chielmnicki Cossacks. Now they also carry out pogroms like them too.

  4. My grandmother came from very choshuv XXXX family , my grandfather came from more Modern family. When things started to unravel in Europe after Nazis came to power my mother family went to ask the XXXX rebbe if they should leave (that time it was relatively easy to get visa to many countries), the rebbe said no. My grandfather family went to ask their own rabbi what to do and he told them the same answer, not to leave and to stay in Europe. After much discussion they decided to ignore their rabbi advice and left Europe, my grandfather took my grandmother with him.

Most of my grandfather family survived the war, very few from my grandmother family did.

The moral of the story is "ask your rabbi but still use your seichel".

I notice that many of the people who say you should follow a rabbi blindly are unstable BT who thirty years ago would probably join Jim Jones who had many Jewish follower

That rebbe actually was able to escape the war, he did lose his immediate family.
