This scenario is comparable to the United States allowing Guantanamo detainees to disperse along its borders with Canada and Mexico a year after 9/11, or permitting them to join Taliban forces against US troops in Afghanistan – a notion that defies strategic logic.
There are always possibilities
ReplyDelete1) Trump takes credit for this lousy deal - all the American hostages get released in the first phase and he takes credit for that.
2) The ball is now in Hamas' court. As long as they keep the peace, things are fine. The minute they don't, Trump can say "Look, I tried to arrange a deal for you, you blew it and Israel can do what it wants with you."
3) Hamas is nothing but a low level gang without arms and support from Iran. Until now Israel has not been able to strike a killing blow against them because Biden and his team love the ayatollahs and have been shielding them. Trump will not and it's entirely possibly that's the other side of this lousy deal - accept crap from Hamas but here's the bombs to finish Iran.
