President Donald Trump announced Monday his intention to level economic sanctions, hike tariffs and halt trade negotiations with Turkey as a result of its military incursion against U.S.-aligned Kurdish forces in northern Syria.
“I will soon be issuing an Executive Order authorizing the imposition of sanctions against current and former officials of the Government of Turkey and any persons contributing to Turkey’s destabilizing actions in northeast Syria. Likewise, the steel tariffs will be increased back up to 50 percent, the level prior to reduction in May,” Trump said in a statement. “The United States will also immediately stop negotiations, being led by the Department of Commerce, with respect to a $100 billion trade deal with Turkey.”
“Mark אך, on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered in באספכם the yield of your land את תבואת הארץ, you shall observe תחגו the festival of the Lord [to last] seven days: a complete rest on the first day, and a complete rest on the eighth day. On the first day you shall take ולקחתם לכם the product of hadar trees פרי עץ הדר, branches of palm trees, boughs of leafy trees עץ עבת, and willows of the brook, and you shall rejoice before the Lord your God seven days. You shall observe it as a festival of the Lord for seven days in the year; you shall observe it in the seventh month as a law for all time, throughout the ages לדרתיכם. You shall live in booths בסכות תשבו seven days; all citizens in Israel shall live in booths ישבו בסכת, in order that future generations דרתיכם may now that I made the Israelite people live הושבתי in booths when I brought them out of the land of Egypt, I the Lord your God.” (Leviticus 23:39-43).
ReplyDeleteI heard that Moses went up the first time to Mount Sinai to receive the 10 Commandments, at the end of 40 days, the fake news crowd induced the people to thinking Moses was dead. The men sinned the sin of the Golden Calf and not the women. On Yom Kippur God forgave for the sin of the Golden Calf. Oh, in a midrash, when the people sinned the sin of the Golden Calf, the Clouds of Glory departed from the people. On the 11 of Tishrei Moses gave the command to bring to build the Mishkan. On the 15th day of the 7th month, the Clouds of Glory return. They stayed for all the years in the desert until Aaron’s death.
My theory. The Talmud says that women were fully part in the miracle of the Exodus from Egypt and so are obligated for all the Passover rituals. Women had nothing to do with the Golden Calf. The temporary losing of the Clouds of Glory and their return did not relate to them. Men, seems, have a different evil inclination. Men need the mitzvah of dwelling in a Succah with roof that is Clouds of Glory. Yes, I hold from the view that the “You shall live in booths בסכות תשבו seven days; all citizens in Israel shall live in booths ישבו בסכת, in order that future generations דרתיכם may now that I made the Israelite people live הושבתי in booths when I brought them out of the land of Egypt, I the Lord your God.”---were Clouds of Glory and not ordinary booths as all over Bnei Brak today. Doesn’t King David say: “One thing I ask of the Lord, only that do I seek: to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord, to frequent ולבקר His temple. He will shelter me יצפנני in His pavilion בסכה on an evil day, grant me the protection יסתרני בסתר of His tent אהלו raise me high upon a rock.” (Psalms 27:4-5).
