WHEN Yitta Schwartz died last month at 93, she left behind 15 children, more than 200 grandchildren and so many great- and great-great-grandchildren that, by her family’s count, she could claim perhaps 2,000 living descendants.
Mrs. Schwartz was a member of the Satmar Hasidic sect, whose couples have nine children on average and whose ranks of descendants can multiply exponentially. But even among Satmars, the size of Mrs. Schwartz’s family is astonishing. A round-faced woman with a high-voltage smile, she may have generated one of the largest clans of any survivor of the Holocaust — a thumb in the eye of the Nazis.
Do the 'Yoile descendents' speak with the 'Zalmon' descendents?
ReplyDeleteThis is our best answer.
ReplyDeleteThe growth of Am Yisroel -showing our Nitzchius.
Lots of nachas.
ReplyDeleteWe should all emulate this tzadekis' example.
This is only possible with massive welfare fraud, for example Satmar do not get married with the state. They get marries by a rabbi only and then the wife get pregnant she applys for s single mother status.
ReplyDeleteThat way you hear about single mothers with names like Sury, Gitty, Yitta etc.
There are many other way Satmar learned to manipulate the system.
quite amazing - I wonder if she knew all their names!
ReplyDeleteWe can all be nispoel and emulate this true Tzadekis.
ReplyDeleteWhile there is rampant fraud in Satmar, you have no right to single out this particular family without knowing details.
ReplyDeleteHow do you know? Maybe they are very wealthy and don't need to do anything fraudulent? Or maybe they are legally benefiting from govt programs?
When you talk like that it is indeed the siman of an of tamei.
There is no rampant fraud in Satmar. That claim sounds like it came straight from Joseph Goebbels and Der Stürmer.
ReplyDeleteHey Chief Penguin!
ReplyDeleteYou must be living up near the arctic circle where it's so cold that your heart must be frozen. You read a heart warming story, and you still can't bring yourself to give a smile and a bracha.
I don't know how many "children" Penguins have, but I imagine that your heart is so cold that you don't have much room in there for too many.
Maybe you can't afford to have too many because you are learning challenged, and can't get a decent job since you can't even read a simple newspaper article.
If you understood what you read, you would see that Mrs. Schwartz's husband WORKED for a living! He had a furniture store on Lee Ave. Mrs. Schwartz helped the family budget by being industrious, sewing her daughter's clothing and baked her own bread (challah). For her children’s weddings, she herself starched the tablecloths and baked the chocolate babkas and napoleons.
When people lives frugally and doesn't waste money on conspicuous consumption, most families can get by LEGALLY, and do not have to resort to fraud.
While you may feel that you personally are not capable of supporting so many Penguins, you still do not have the right to malign an entire community who may be living a different lifestyle than yours.
Maybe you're a rich Penguin who feels it "necessary" to take expensive vacations and have lavish Yom Tov hotel accommodations in some ritzy hotel, which causes you to feel that you can't "afford" to have more little Penguins living with you. Coming from such a narcissistic viewpoint, I pity those who need to live with you.
My rebbi once said, "Children are fun, the more the merrier"!
So please, try to cheer up for for chodesh Adar, chill out (warm up) and smile for all the Jewish children being born in the world, being the ultimate answer to all the Hamans and Hitlers who roam the world.
To all the nice warmhearted Yidden who welcome the bracha of children, I wish you all at least 120 (children, grandchildren, etc.)! - To the grumpy ones who wouldn't appreciate my bracha, don't worry, I'm not blessing you. You wouldn't know how to handle it, you'd think that I'm cursing you :(
Smiling and Warm in Yerushalayim
(working on my 120+)
I don't know this lady or her descendents, but just focusing on quantity doesn't impress me much.
ReplyDeleteSatmar has a disproportionate number of it's members caught for various frauds in a pattern that shows it is even more widespread. The government knows it but it is not politically correct to turn the whole Willy & Kiryas Yoel upside down.
ReplyDeleteAnyone reading news reports can see this.
Sorry to burst YN's bubble.

================================
Moshe, What does impress you?
Actually, Satmar is well underrepresented proportionally in fraud issues.
ReplyDeleteApologies if the facts don't fit your anti-semitic agenda.
Many of the stories getting in the papers with heimishe ganovim are Satmar chassidim.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is they think this is still the backwater peasant towns of Romania where cutting corners was a way of life and the government itself was very corrupt.
This attitude is also what led to Kolko getting away with his crimes at YTT for 30 years since the yeshiva is owned by an old Satmar chossid (who used to be the bus driver for Torah Vodaas)
Is that Avi Shafran or Marvin Schick posing as Y.N. / Yaakov who also argue that there are hardly any child molesters among frumma Yidden?
ReplyDeleteGet your heads out of the sand.
I am truly nispoel by this Jewish heroine.
ReplyDeleteMay we all be zoicha to such nachas!
Smiling and Warm in Yerushalayim
ReplyDelete===============================
The Jerusalem emperature from http://www.wunderground.com says the the temperature in Jerusalem is 46.8 and windchill 47 f
Not very warm...
Wondering:
ReplyDeleteUmmm, quality?
Hi Meteorologist,
ReplyDeleteYou must be related to Chief Penguin (or are one and the same)!
You both can't seem to comprehend what you read.
I didn't say or imply that I was warm. I am Smiling and WARMHEARTED in Yerushalayim.
Whatever the actual temperature may be outside, my heart is ALWAYS warmed when hearing of another child born to the Jewish people, and I don't go around making snide remarks as to how they will support them.
How warm is your heart up there in the upper stratosphere or in Penguin Land?
Moshe,
ReplyDeleteDo you have any reason to believe that that there is a lack of quality in this woman's descendants?
How do you define quality?
Whatever the actual temperature may be outside, my heart is ALWAYS warmed when hearing of another child born to the Jewish people,
ReplyDeleteI am happy too, I am just not happy that they make bnos yisrael seems like whores , when they send them to the state to collect welfare as unwed mothers with out of wedlock children.
Maybe Schwartz's husband for a living, but the majority of modern day Satmar do not.
If you know about a way of legally supporting 10 children with being very rich or without having the government pay for it please share it with us.
Going on personal attacks on me does not lend credibility to you or to your cause. Attacking other Jews who do not agree with them seem to be a mida of the newly minted BT which I bet you are.
quite amazing - I wonder if she knew all their names!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering the same thing. I believe that figure might only number in the low 100's. Many years ago, I read that the average person can recognize the faces of about 1,000 people on the street.
There is no rampant fraud in Satmar. That claim sounds like it came straight from Joseph Goebbels and Der Stürmer.
ReplyDelete7 comments in and already Godwin's Rule has been invoked.
I live around Satmar Hasidim. Practically every one - almost down to the last man - works for a living.
ReplyDeleteThey are also the most kind, warmest human beings I have had the pleasure of ever meeting.
I envy their tranquility and inner happiness. I wish I could know their secret to their love of life. I've never seen a community as generous and kind, internally and externally, as the Satmar community.
Their rate of growth is truly astounding. May God continue to bless them.
Satmar varmkeit is not a stira to the belief of many of them that it is mutter to ganve from the government.
