CIA Director John Ratcliffe told President Trump and other senior officials that evidence gathered by U.S. intelligence agencies raises serious doubts about Iran's willingness to make the nuclear concessions the U.S. is seeking in any final deal, according to three sources familiar with those discussions.
Friction point: Ratcliffe isn't the only skeptic in Trump's top team. In internal discussions, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth both expressed concerns and raised questions about the memorandum of understanding (MOU) announced Sunday, while Vice President Vance and U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner advocated for it, according to two of the sources.
In the first administration, Trump would fire anyone who disagreed with him, so we'll have to see if he's going to repeat that tactic this time as well.
ReplyDeleteI am reminded of the 2000 Camp David meeting. Recall our despair at the time. Ehud Barak was going to go and surrender Yesh"a and parts of Yerushalayim to Arafat in return for worthless promises. Bill Clinton was going to pressure him into making every concession. And Barak did. He handed Arafat, y"sh, everything he's ever claimed to want.
ReplyDeleteAnd Arafat said no, there was Intifada II and the end of the PA as anything more than a small clump of hills in the middle of Yehuda and Shomron.
I remember in 1991 that the price of Arab support for Bush's "Coalition of the Willing" to liberate Kuwait from Iraq was an international conference at which Israel would be pressured to hand over all of Yesh"a and part of Yerushalayim to the so-called Palestinians. The only negotiation would be on how fast Israel could get the Jews out of there before the new country would declare independence and massacre, with the world's approval, all the remaining Jews who didn't get out in time.
And then the Yugoslavia civil war started.
God watches over his people. Yes, this looks very bad right now but we must have faith. If we are worthy, Iran and its proxies will do something stupid to sink the deal. If we are not, then we must look to our sins - hey, might rioting Chareidim causing massive daily chilul HaShem's have something to do with it? - and do teshuvah.
I remember the fighting between the right wing and the Kaplan faction in the months leading up to Oct 7th pogrom
DeleteAnd before that between the Bnei brak and the yerushalmi faction.
And in the future maybe turkey will be the next threat.
Then maybe moshiach will come
What future? Turkey is already the big threat. They're the ones who called off the Americans using the Kurds to invade Iran. They're the ones positioning themselves to restore the Ottoman Empire.
DeleteAnd yes, you remember all those things well. They all contributed to this situation and our current infighting is contributing to it.
Consider the famous statements by Chazal
1) Even if Israel worships idols, as long as they live together in peace God will support them.
2) The Temple was destroyed and we were sent into exile because even though everyone was learning and being frum-frum, the sinas chinam outweighed it.
1)
DeleteVayikra Rabba 24, 2 it says " in the days of of king Achav, when all were idolaters, they would of go off to war and fall in battle and win". This means that even amongst idolaters, peace is preferable amongst them.
Is this empirically true? The idolatrous tribes got totally exiled even before the churban bayit rishon. The remaining idolater kings between Hezekiah and Josiah (the two righteous Kings) created enough bad credit for Hashem to basically finish off the nation even under the righteous Josiah.
are we on an Geula upwave? can we say for certain that Hashem is going to bring the Moshiach in this current settlement of E'Y?
