Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban conceded defeat Sunday in a major election loss that will reverberate in Washington and Moscow and bring an end to the 16-year rule of a self-proclaimed champion of illiberal Christian democracy who is a darling of MAGA-aligned American conservatives, an ally of the Kremlin and a proud antagonist of European Union leaders in Brussels.
Orban, 62, who has governed Hungary with increasing authoritarianism since 2010, and his Fidesz party were ousted by Peter Magyar, 45, a center-right, socially conservative member of the European Parliament, and his Tisza Party — in what was arguably the country’s most consequential vote since the end of the communist era. Vice President JD Vance visited Hungary last week to campaign for Orban.
He's an honourable man. A dictator such as erdogan would arrest his opponents and rig the elections.
ReplyDeleteHow can he be an ally of Trump and not claim the election was stolen?
DeleteThe three biggest crises facing Europe right now are
ReplyDelete1) the threat of Russian expansion back into the old Warsaw Pact states
2) the need to obtain energy security
3) the imminent collapse of secular European society and its replacement by Islamist corruption and Sharia law.
These are all desperate situations that the EU is either impotent against (1), too in thrall to the eco-fascists to handle properly (2), or so full of suicidal empathy (credit: Gad Saad) that they will assist in their own societal demise just to maintain their facade of virtue.
Orban was a tough leader who recognized that nasty times need nasty leadership. Europeans hated him because in their zeal to destroy national identity, he pushed Hungarian patriotism and pride. Instead of throwing his borders open to the Muslim replacement crowd, he slammed it shut. Hungary for the Hungarians sounds fascist but France for the Algerians and Britain becoming the first Muslim state to have a chance at winning the World Cup sounds far worse.
So yeah, he made nice with bad people if it benefited Hungary. Don't forget that he aligned with both Israel and Iran because he wasn't our friend, just a convenient ally when needed. Those bad people had the power to ensure Hungary remained independent and Hungarian in a world where forces were and are aligned to end that.
