“For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity,” Trump said in the Truth Social post.
On Monday, Greenland’s prime minister said the island isn’t up for purchase.
Trump has a point. As Arctic seas melt, the Northwest Passage will become an increasingly desirable trade route for northern countries wanting to not go all the way to the Panama Canal. Russia and China will increasingly seek to control it and Canada will not stop them so it is an andvantage to America to control both ends, through positions in Alaska and Greenland.
