Cohen marry a giyores

 I was just informed of a major dispute in America concerning a person from an established family of cohanim who wants to marry a giyores.

There are major rabbis on both sides

    Didn't we go through this a few years ago with the Kohen who married a divorcee? In that case, the Kohen tried to claim that his paternal grandfather was only a safek kohen and justified the marriage that way.
