Inside DOJ's nationwide effort to take on China

The department’s targets range from Chinese military officers to American college professors — evidence, its leadership says, that the Chinese government is targeting every sector of American public life. The Chinese government has denied allegations of state-sponsored theft, according to media reports, and its embassy in Washington did not respond to POLITICO’s requests for comment on this story.

Last month in West Virginia, for instance, a former West Virginia University professor pleaded guilty to fraud. According to the charging document, he asked the university to give him time off so he could care for his newborn. But instead, he secretly used the time to work in China as part of its Thousand Talents Plan, an effort by the Beijing government to recruit and draw talented researchers to China that U.S. officials say is thinly disguised economic espionage.

Imagine a neighbour brings a skunk into your house. On his way out, the skunk sprays him but then it also sprays the rest of the house and its inhabitants.
Where's your neighbour? Well he ran to the store to buy tomato juice to wash off the smell. Then, as you're struggling because you have only a small amount of tomato juice in your fridge, he shows up with several cans of the stuff and graciously offers it to you. The only problem is that the cans have all been tampered with and the juice is watered down which makes it ineffectively.
So you look at your neighbour and say "What the hell is this?" and he says "Look, I don't know where that skunk came from and it was irresponsible of you to let it spray me but you should be on your knees thanking me for the excellent quality tomato juice I brought you!"
The neighbour, in a nutshell, is China.

  2. proof? argument by metaphor doesn't prove anything!

The virus started in China. China's new official position is that it started in the US and was brought to China by visiting US soldiers. China suppressed information about the outbreak for months until it couldn't hide it any longer. China allowed its citizens to travel without warning anyone. China muzzled the WHO and prevented it from declaring a pandemic until very late in the game. It prevents the WHO from recommending people follow Taiwan's example because it doesn't want the world to recognize Taiwan. China is now sending lots of medical supplies around the world to help out but more and more countries are testing these supplies and discovering that, like most things "made in China" they are defective. At the same time China continues its economic and cyber warfare on countries that oppose it. It's not far-fetched to believe that the Chinese government wants to set up other countries to fail so that it can swoop in, rescue them and then establish a dominant global position for doing do. In short, China is not above using this tragedy for its own ends instead of being a good neighbour.

  4. The Chinese produce a lot of what we use in this country. We don't complain about that. So the line is blurred between "us" and "them". We have a global economy. We also share diseases, which are transported here just like televisions.

If works across the board. Globalism contributes to pandemics.

I replied. You clearly didn't post it. Yet you claim you let my comments through.

    Wuhan virus, from China.

"Ministers fear that the coronavirus pandemic might have been caused by a leak from a Chinese laboratory, The Mail on Sunday can reveal."

  8. Rmbam would not approve of your spreading conspiracy theories on the basis of this article

You've misunderstood the distinction between the two sets of claims.
Livescience merely states that that the virus was not engineered - or synthesized. The Daily Mail is reporting another possibility, that the virus leaked from the Wuhan research centre. This information may have been concealed by the Chinese government.

Have you asked his opinion on the matter? You would need to ask both his medical opinion, and his halachic opinion. I think that is rather difficult to do, nowadays.

Here is the trail, although not proven. The patient Zero seems to have been partially erased from records, and photo and other information removed from the Wuhan Insititute for virology website.

There are differing levels of conspiracy theories.

When dealing with totalitarian regimes, eg China, Russia, N. Korea, then it is prudent to be very skeptical of the public information they give out.

Here is an ehrlicher Science journal, and they leave the question open:
