What did you expect? The minute the first case was diagnosed, an emergency government should have been formed, egos should have been set aside and a national policy applying to everyone should have been implemented. Instead the political leadership made it very clear that their personal goals were more important. It reminds me of the Midrash where Yehoachin scoffs at megillas Eicha until it mentions that he will lose his throne.
