Sefer Chasidim (#1170) Why do spirits harm on Shabbat Eve? Because the spirits are not in Gehenim. This is referring to the spirits of the wicked, when they die, are the harmful demons, like all the descendants of Cain who died, their souls became harmful demons and they were given permission to harm those who violate the Sabbath. Or if they were upset on Shabbos. Or even if they are not enjoying it.
Sefer Chassidim is so full of weird stuff that I find it difficult to understand why it is regarded as authoritative. A lot of the contents were added and is not from Rav Yehuda Hachassid.
