4 takeaways from the bizarrely chummy Trump-Mamdani meeting

 https://edition.cnn.com/2025/11/21/politics/takeaways-zohran-mamdani-trump-oval-office-new-york

Among Trump’s comments:

“I think he’s going to surprise some conservative people, actually.”

“Some of his ideas really are the same ideas that I have.”

“We agree on a lot more than I would’ve thought.”

“I think this mayor can do some things that are going to be really great.”

When a reporter noted Trump had threatened to cut funding to New York City if Mamdani were elected, the president suggested that he’ll play that card if he needs to. But he also downplayed the possibility.

“I expect to be helping him, not hurting him,” Trump said.

  1. You need to shift your focus. Do you know who the biggest enemy of the Jewish community in New York is? I'll tell you: Satmar.
Mamdani already played his card in response to the recent shul protest by blaming the Jews for using it for a Nefesh b'Nefesh event. The message was clear: just restrict yourself to banal worship and do nothing pro-Israel and you'll be fine, maybe.
And if the Jewish community protests? Police show up and charge rabbis giving pro-Israel speeches? Jewish centres are shut down because they want to have an Israel-themed event? And if they protests "Our Zionism is part of our Judaism! We have a religious right to support Israel!" then Mamzerdani can trot out any number of Satmars who can intone (in Yiddish, naturally): The Torah is against Zionism! Zionists are sinners who deserve punished! No true Jew supports Israel!"

    1. Trump is am egomaniac. He doesn't know what is going on. And he has woke Nazi allies like Vance and Carlson.
He has gone soft on mamzerani, despite having said he will deport him.
      Satmar are not the problem.
It's neturei karta, who are the ugly mob.

    2. Satmar organizes massive rallies. Satmar organizes massive influencing campaigns. Satmar organizes massive voting turnouts for preferred candidates. They are far the greater danger.

    3. Satmar have 2 branches. The moderate one is not so anti Israel anymore. Even the extreme branch had a rule not to demonstrate against Israel during wartime.
Their rallies are against conscription. They don't do Palestine.

    4. First, no there is no moderate branch. They both hate Israel.
Second, they're quite happy to hold massive anti-Israel protests and here's the thing - Gentiles seeing this don't think "Well they're against the protest but they don't support the so-called Palestinians." They see signs saying "Israel is against the Torah" which supports their false narrative that Judaism and Zionism are separate things.

    5. I think it's aharon's brother's clan, who are much more moderate than the previous rebbes. They are the ones who mourned for mercaz harav victims of the terrorist attack.
They don't do anti Israel, just anti draft - but so does rabbi yosef, the previous rishon lezion chief rabbi

    6. I remember that 'mourning" and then Failed Messiah got a hold of a speech given at Seudah Shlishis the Shabbos after where the Rebbe backtracked and said that he really wasn't morning.
