When it came to the actual events in Russia and Ukraine, the panelists grappled with the issue more uneasily. Some castigated the media for demonizing anyone who had the audacity to suggest that America should not rush to war. Lee Smith, who writes for Real Clear Investigations and Tablet, defended conservative commentator Candace Owens, who, among other things, blamed America for the war in Ukraine. According to Smith, the true implication of the brouhaha stirred up by Owens’ remarks is that “Donald Trump supporters are disloyal. American voters, at least half the country, are disloyal.” This “rolls over” into Jan. 6, he added. “Anyone who didn’t vote for Biden” ends up being unfairly branded as “an insurrectionist or a domestic terrorist.”
One could blame America for partly being responsible for the war. And it wouldn't be the first time.
ReplyDeleteRemember way back when the Iraqis asked their local American representatives if anyone would care if they invaded Kuwait? Remember how the Americans say "Um, no"? And then Iraq invaded Kuwait and the Americans got upset!
No American leader, from Bush II to Biden, ever gave the impression that they would be outraged by a Russian attack on Ukraine. The strongest response they ever gave was "Well we really wish you wouldn't". The Bidens are probably not pleased, given their extensive income from it (please don't post 10 things about how they don't have corrupt connections, they're all revisionist history lies and you know it) but no one ever said straight out to Putin "Don't do it!"

ReplyDeletethis is a Chomskyite view of things, basically Chomsky said the same thing about Afganistan, that Zbigniew Brezinsky boasted how they drew USSR into Afghanistan. There is some truth to it, even if this was not the intention of NATO's expansion eastwards. Ukraine is now a war-lab , between Russian/Old Soviet war machine, and modern Western anti -tank and anti-air missiles. NATO countries are giving as matanos l'evyonim , their most high tech missiles, drones, etc which are destroying soviet era, poorly managed tanks, APCs , helicopters and warplanes.
The Russians are testing their hypersonic missiles, and their battel readiness, whcih has truned out to be a disaster, and the generals are being arrested, killed, or replaced.
