Yet in nearly two dozen states, the movement to impose restrictions on the teaching of history is gaining momentum. Incited by a national hysteria over “critical race theory,” advocates of these educational fatwas are borrowing a page from authoritarian governments like Vladimir Putin’s Russia in a clumsy effort to avoid discussing the messy, controversial and painful moments in America’s history.
And as a professional historian, I can tell you that these bans will be terrible for anyone teaching or studying Jewish history.
What
exactly is critical race theory, and how is it apparently — in the
words of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican who is seen as a
potential presidential candidate — teaching our kids “to hate each
other” and “hate our country”?
What??? These claims are insane. Totally nonsensical. CRT has nothing to do with teaching, or not teaching, of Jewish history.
ReplyDeleteIt is funny how the narrative has shifted so rapidly from "Ha ha ha, these republicans are crazy, there is no such thing as CRT being taught in schools" to now an overly aggressive posturing to convince you that CRT shouldn't be banned, because of all sorts of phony and imagined supposed consequences of doing so, exactly coinciding with the beginnings of success by grassroots efforts by parents at the local school board levels to ban this crap! What a (non) coincidence!
CRT is "Whites are racists! No one else is! Whites have power. No one else does. A good person opposed this. An evil person supports it." That's Kendi and his friends in a nutshell. Apparently they're not only misguided but also gutless if they're now trying to pretend that the backlash they instigated isn't their fault.

ReplyDeleteNo, it's actually the opposite. The CRT's want to paint America's entire history as dark and evil. Heard of The 1619 Project? Heard of the folks who want to change math because the traditional way of teaching it - do the problem get the correct answer - is apparently racist?
ReplyDeleteCRT is about teaching that Whites are evil and responsible for everything bad in the world. That's why there's pushback.
Let's say Whites are racist. Fine.
ReplyDeleteWhat are the implications? That non-Whites are discriminated against?
Ok.
That some non-Whites may be enslaved as Whites consolidate power and undo laws guaranteeing equality?
Ok.
So, can we move on now and talk about something else, please, other than the upcoming disintegration of society, the resulting chaos, and order being restored under a White Supremacist Regime?
