They say that but let's say that this Shabbos I walk into a shul in deepest, darkest Bene Beraq with my nice white serugah on. I'm sitting next to one of the rioters and the gabbai looks over, wanting to give out an aliyah. He knows full well the guy next to me was one of the rioters. Who do you think will get the aliyah? The "goy" or "well at least he's one of us even if we don't like what he did"?
