Esper Says He ‘Didn’t See’ Specific Evidence Iranians Planned to Attack 4 Embassies

President Trump had claimed that a planned attack on four American embassies was a justification for the strike on an Iranian general.

Trump's Defense Secretary Says Iran's Soleimani Was 'Probably' Planning U.S. Embassy Attacks, But He 'Didn't See' Specific Evidence

 newsweek

Secretary of Defense Mark Esper said on Sunday that he "didn't see" specific evidence that Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani was planning attacks on U.S. embassies in the Middle East, but he believed "probably" that was Soleimani's plan.
Esper's remarks, during an interview with CBS News' Face the Nation, came after President Donald Trump told Fox News host Laura Ingraham on Friday that he could "reveal" that he believed "it probably would've been four embassies" that were attacked through Soleimani's planning. The defense secretary did not directly corroborate Trump's remarks, noting that he had not seen evidence confirming the president's assertion.

  1. Were you just as outraged when Israel engaged in targetted assassinations of Hamas leaders a few years ago?

  2. It is a standard operating procedure in Israel's policy toward Hamas, and they also took out hezbollah's Imad Mughinyeh in spectacular fashion.

  3. Dan Crenshaw had this comment in response to this piece regarding Esper:

But he (Esper) agreed with POTUS assessment it could be embassies.

Here’s how this works: Officials receive intel & make assessments. CIA, DNI, Joint Chiefs agreed the intel was very clear & it’d be more dangerous to not act. Keep that in mind amid Dem and media efforts to discredit it.

  4. Totally on topic. Here you have a general who's also running several terrorist organizations that are actively carrying out attacks on various groups through the Middle East. Saying "Well they didn't have evidence he was actively planning attacks" is like saying that you don't know if the local makolet is planning to restock its milk in the morning because they didn't make an announcement.
When Israel starting attacking Hamas leaders with precision and avoiding collateral casualities, the terror group pulled back because suddenly it wasn't about them sending out pawns for the Israelis to kill. When it was their skin, they became more circumspect. Now the US does the same thing, send the message that they're not going to randomly kill a bunch of Iranians or Iraqis but if you're in charge you're a target. The exact same message.

  5. that he could "reveal" that he believed "it probably ...
megaleh tefach umchasse tfachayim. It is understood that there is much more that he could not reveal. Pursuing him to reveal is only playing into the hand of the enemies. Just "let it be" and move on.

  6. On topic. Knocking off Hamas leaders without causing mass casaulties forced Hamas to back off for a while. Knocking off a major Iranian general without causing any civilian deaths causes Iran to think more carefully before it prods the US.

  8. REALLY?!

BIBI ALWAYS GOES ON TELEVISION OR TWITTER TO BRAG ABOUT ASSASINATIONS?

  9. sometimes they use amiguity and don't comment, other times they justify it.
Bibi brags too much about covert ops in Iran, which is stupid, and even Gantz agrees with me

  10. Targeted killings have been demonstrated to do wonders.
Just chop off the heads of the terrorist snakes.
It spares the need to go after the rest of the snake.

  11. THE POINT IS THE PRESIDENT NEEDS TO CONSULT WITH CONGRESS BEFORE HE ORDERS AN ASSASSINATION AND TRUMP DID NOT

  13. A commander-in-chief has very broad powers to act, when he feels that America and American interests and Americans themselves are being threatened.

Did Obama go to Congress for permission before he gave the order to take out Osama bin Laden? No.

Did President Obama Order More Than 500 Drone Strikes? Yes. The Obama administration oversaw armed drone attacks that killed almost 2,600 persons, excluding persons in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria.

  14. are you defending tTump by saying he was imitating Obama

the fact is he justified himself by making a false story of imminent danger then changed the story when he was question about evidence which he obviously did not have

  15. Trump doesn't need me to defend him.
He's doing quite well himself, and I look forward to 4 more years of him making Liberal minds explode.
I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy of those criticizing Trump, when their own idol, Hussein Obama did the same, HUNDREDS of times, and not a peep from them.

  16. Obama had to sacrifice his cousin Osama, to make him look good amongst his democrat infidels.

  17. Trump is doing a terrible job of justifying his actions- except for the true believers who believe whatever he says even if is obviously false and contradictory
