NYC mayor sorry for Jewish funeral criticism

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-52478414

In response to reports of the mass gathering of mourners, Mr de Blasio warned "the Jewish community" that police would make arrests.
The city leader was accused of anti-Semitism for his comments.
The Hasidic Jews were mourning a late rabbi at the service in the Williamsburg, Brooklyn, neighbourhood.
"If in my passion and in my emotion I said something that was hurtful, I'm sorry about that," Mr de Blasio said.
"I have no regrets about calling out this danger and saying we're going to deal with it very, very aggressively."
Images shared online by journalists show a large gathering of people attending the funeral on Tuesday night.

Why so many US nurses are out of work

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-52476128

And even as some parts of the US are talking of desperate shortages in nursing staff, elsewhere in the country many nurses are being told to stay at home without pay.
That is because American healthcare companies are looking to cut costs as they struggle to generate revenue during the coronavirus crisis.
"Nurses are being called heroes," Mariya Buxton says, clearly upset. "But I just really don't feel like a hero right now because I'm not doing my part."
Ms Buxton is a paediatric nurse in St Paul, Minnesota, but has been asked to stay at home.
At the unit at which Ms Buxton worked, and at hospitals across most of the country, medical procedures that are not deemed to be urgent have been stopped. That has meant a massive loss of income.

Trump Says U.S. Will Run 5 Million Daily Virus Tests 'Very Soon.' His Testing Chief Says That's Impossible

https://time.com/5828843/trump-coronavirus-testing-giroir/

President Donald Trump declared Tuesday that the U.S. will be able to carry out five million coronavirus tests per day, but the top official overseeing testing strategy told TIME earlier in the day that goal wasn’t feasible given current technology.
Admiral Brett Giroir, the assistant secretary of health who is in charge of the government’s testing response, said during an interview on Tuesday morning that “there is absolutely no way on Earth, on this planet or any other planet, that we can do 20 million tests a day, or even five million tests a day.”
Since the beginning of the year, the Administration has conducted 5.7 million tests in total, he said. And while the government has made strides in increasing the number of tests being performed in recent months, the White House’s new “blueprint” for testing, rolled out on Monday, currently plans to double current COVID-19 testing. Giroir plans to hit 8 million per month by next month.

Howard Stern stands behind comments suggesting Trump supporters take disinfectants

Long-time radio personality Howard Stern doubled down on his comments on Tuesday that suggested President Trump's followers should take a form of disinfectant and "see if his theory works."

Stern argued that comments or sarcasm on his controversial radio show isn't the same as what Trump riffed during a briefing last week amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“By the way, at a press conference in front of the country, is not the time to spitball ideas -- medical ideas -- when you’re a not doctor,” Stern said, according to the paper.
