Magisteria: The Entangled Histories of Science & Religion highly recommended

Does  Science conflict with Religion? Has it always?

  1. There is no intrinsic conflict between science and religion.
Science explains how the world works. Religion explains the world's purpose.
The conflict occurs when scientists step into the religious sphere and religious leaders decide to opine on science.

    2. The Rav, zt"l, said that the point of reading Torah is to gain insight into the morality of God. You're not reading Genesis 1 as a history book but to learn about how He created the world and purpose for it. So a strictly literalist approach, especially in the modern day, is unworkable and creates the conflict.
