The most obvious reason for the lower death toll is age.
The
first wave of the pandemic hit Europe's elderly people particularly
hard, spreading in hospitals and care homes, but this has changed over
the summer, with the virus circulating more widely among younger people
going to restaurants, bars and other public places.
