Upending traditional views on peacemaking, Israel-UAE deal truly heralds new era

Netanyahu proves wrong all those who argued normalization with Arab world is impossible without a solution to the Palestinian conflict — without giving anything tangible in return

  1. Years ago I had a conversation with an Egyptian pharmacist.
"You know why we hate Israel? Because we created the Palestinians to try and destroy it and it didn't work. Because of that we got flooded with millions of them. Living in camps, bringing crime everywhere, they're ruining our societies. But we can't get rid of them because our leaders tell us we need them to fight Israel. If Israel would go away, we could get rid of them too!"
And now the Arabs have moved beyond the so-called Palestinians and decided they're irrelevant.

  2. "Proves them wrong."
Yeah, sure. Just like the deal with Egypt proved us wrong. And the deal with Jordan. What utter nonsense.
You have an article here saying nothing tangible in return, but the previous article you cited said explicitly annexation is "off the table" as part of the terms of this "peace deal."

    Bibi sold out once again.

  3. Torah thought on this week’s parsha שפטים
“When you approach a town to attack it, you shall offer it terms of peace [or call on it to surrender]. If it responds peaceably and lets you in, all the people present there shall serve you at forced labor. If it does not surrender to you, but would join battle with
you, you shall lay siege to it; and when the Lord your God delivers it into your hand, you shall put all its males to the sword. You may, however, take as your booty the women, the children, the livestock, and everything in the town—all its spoil—and enjoy the use of the spoil of your enemy, which the Lord your God gives you. Thus you shall deal with all towns that lie very far from you, towns that do not belong to nations hereabout. In the towns of the latter peoples, however, which the Lord your God is
giving you as a heritage, you shall not let a soul remain alive. No, you must proscribe [see Lev. 27.29 29 No human being who has been proscribed can be ransomed: he shall
be put to death] them— the Hittites and the Amorites, the Canaanites and the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites—as the Lord your God has commanded you, lest they lead you into doing all the abhorrent things that they have done for their gods and you stand guilty before the Lord your God.” (Deuteronomy 20:10-18).

Hertz Chumash p. 932: “10. Proclaim peace unto it. War is to be regarded as the last resort. First of all there must be offers of peace. If these are accepted, no one is to be harmed in person or in possession; the city becomes tributary to Israel. All traditional commentators agree that those offers of peace had to be made to all enemy cities, to those of the Canaanites as well. The latter were, in addition, to abandon idolatry and adhere to the Seven Commandments given to the descendants of Noah (i.e. the establishment of courts of justice, and the prohibition of blasphemy, idolatry, incest, murder, robbery and unnatural cruelty); see p. 33.”

Kushner explains that President Trump introduced, what he defines as a "strategic realignment". "In the new Middle East", he writes, "nations must chart their course based on shared interests and common values, not old hatreds and rivalries". "Thanks to the courageous leaders of Israel and the United Arab Emirates", Kushner emphasizes, "the Middle East this week took a great step toward a future in which people of all faiths and ethnic backgrounds can live together in the spirit of cooperation and peace".

I’d like to present an economics paper in Dubai, if the UAE will invite me.

“With all due respect to the Palestinians, the UAE is much more important for Israel's future. The Gross Domestic Product of the UAE is 414.2 billion dollars, more than 28 times the GDP of the Palestinian Authority. Its ability to affect the Palestinian Authority cannot be overstated. This agreement can lead to peace deals with other Muslim countries I have visited, including Bahrain and Qatar and eventually Saudi Arabia. We pray for peace three times a day, and thanks to President Trump, our prayers are bearing fruit. This was the goal of President Trump's peace plan from day one, and skeptics who doubted that he could bring about peace in the Middle East are invited to eat their hat. Ambassador David Friedman, Trump advisers Jared Kushner and Avi Berkowitz, and Friedman’s chief of staff Aryeh Lightstone all deserve praise for their extraordinary accomplishment.”
