The
interim head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security was in
Portland meeting with federal law enforcement officials on Thursday, the
same day he issued a blistering public statement calling out “local
political leaders” for their refusal “to restore order to protect their
city.”
The message from Acting Secretary Chad Wolf condemned “the rampant long-lasting violence” in Portland.
Wolf’s nearly 1,700-word statement refers to Portland’s demonstrators as both “violent anarchists” and a “violent mob.”
U.S.
Sen. Ron Wyden, a Democrat, on Thursday decried violence and added that
“the real issue here is Donald Trump’s unilateral decision to send
federal law enforcement into Portland. Unfortunately, these outsiders
proved themselves to be escalators of violence when they shot a peaceful
protester in the head just last weekend.”

“Several demonstrations ends with protesters blocking traffic and in violence. In Jerusalem, protesters marched toward the city center. 15 demonstrators were arrested, some for assaulting a police officer. In Tel Aiv, demonstrators marched towards Habima Square. Protesters threw a flaming torch and sprayed pepper spray at police. The commander of the local precinct was sprayed in the face. 13 demonstrators were arrested for inciting violence and assaulting police officers. Among those arrested in Jerusalem was former Shin Bet official Gonen Ben Yitzhak. The Israel police used a water cannon, a vehicle that fires a high-pressure jet of water against protesters on Balfour st, in violation of their procedures. In doing so, they endangered the lives of the protesters," Ben Yitzhak said.”

“Oregon Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, both Democrats, on Friday said they plan to ask the inspectors general of DHS and the Justice Department to open inquiries into “the unrequested presence and violent actions” of federal officers in Portland. Portland, a city of roughly 655,000, has an ingrained culture of public demonstration. Its reputation as a progressive hub contrasts with other parts of the Pacific Northwest that have long been home to far-right groups. The election of President Trump in 2016 prompted protests and some confrontations between a loose-knit group that identifies as Antifa, short for antifascist, and far-right groups such as the Proud Boys, which has been designated a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. The subject of racism is a difficult one for Portland, whose population is 77% white and less than 6% Black, making it one of the least diverse major U.S. cities. Residents turned out in massive numbers after Mr. Floyd’s death, including a “die in” on June 2 where thousands lay on the Burnside Bridge for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, the same amount of time a Minneapolis police officer kneeled on Mr. Floyd’s neck. On June 8, Portland Police Chief Jami Resch stepped down after less than six months on the job. She was succeeded by a Black man, Chuck Lovell, who is an 18-year veteran of the department.”
I support 100% Trump and Netanyahu.
