Over the past couple of weeks, the theory that
SARS-CoV-2 might have accidentally leaked from a lab inside the Wuhan
Institute of Virology has become a heavily touted casus belli in President Trump’s new cold war with China, as administration officials build their case to blame the whole catastrophe on Xi Jinping’s Communist Party. The lab theory was pushed hard by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, even as the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff declared
that in all likelihood, the virus did not originate in a lab. American
allies, meanwhile, appear to be freaked out by the rumor-mongering. “We
can’t repeat the mistakes of the past. The WMDs fiasco was not that long
ago,” a former senior Australian security official told the Sydney Morning Herald.
The lab-accident scenario seems the stuff of Hollywood thrillers—and
perfect as propaganda, which operates on principles similar to those of
thrillers—but there are a few facts that give it a surface plausibility.
The Wuhan lab happens to conduct bat-coronavirus research, and it also
happens to be located not that far from the seafood market where an
early cluster of cases first emerged in late 2019. But, appealing and
useful as it is in certain kinds of narratives, the lab theory leaves
many virology and epidemiology types highly skeptical. To get a sense of
scientists’ reservations, I spoke with Kristian Andersen, a professor in the Department of Immunology and Microbiology at Scripps Research. He was the lead author on a March 17 paper, published in the journal Nature Medicine,
that is seen as the definitive research supporting a natural virus
origin. “We do not believe that any type of laboratory-based scenario is
plausible,” Andersen’s team, which compared the available genome
sequence data for known coronavirus strains, concluded.

ReplyDeleteThis article is nonsense. He is giving an arbitrary probability of a lab escape. A professor of maths and statistical physics actually explained that assigning probability to such events is meaningless and a misuse of probability theory. Probability applies to equiprobable events, such as throwing dice, drawing lottery balls etc. Escape of virus in an imperfect system where human error, faulty equipment and unknown pathogens interact cannot be assigned probabilities.

ReplyDeleteHans Christian Andersen is saying that the pandemic began around November. What a surprise, the Wuhan lab in question was in Lockdown in October. A major incident occurred. What do you think happened? Do you trust a regime that murdered 45 million of its own people under Mao@ cultural revolution? China is a bigger version of North Korea.

ReplyDeleteYour assumptions are based on the article by pompeo jr. In vanity fair. However, the assumption that the lab was secure are debunked by evidence of big flaws both in Wuhan and field lab.

"Even though he is not a resident of Holland, the court issued an arrest warrant for him, allowing any country which is a member of the European Union to enforce it," he said.”
Yikes! The CER court in Amsterdam wants to jail a supposed recalcitrant husband for six months! Terrible. Is this what Meir Kin is angry about in Israel rabbinical courts: the women is always right, her accusations are believed, jail sentences for recalcitrant husbands etc.?

Conspiracy theories usually have a predictable structure big Pharma big oil Illuminati etc controlling something with financial markets Vaccines Media etc. This is exactly the kind of theory that berrel always brings.

Also, my critique of Dr fauci is regarding his work on engineering viruses. It's not clear if the virus was engineered. An engineered virus outbreak could be even more deadly than covid 19.
Wuhan had bat virus samples, engineered virus, and flawed security, thus posing a serious risk of virus escape and pandemic. Nothing conspiratorial about that statement.
You know, during WW2 reports of mass killings of Jews were also dismissed as foolish tales and attempts by "world Jewry" to influence America to enter a war it didn't want to be part of.
