When And How Must A Person Respond To A Hazmana In Beis Din?

 https://matzav.com/when-and-how-must-a-person-respond-to-a-hazmana-in-beis-din/

It’s important to note that the litigant does not necessarily have to accept the Dayanim that sent the hazmana. If the Bais Din of gimmel hedyotos was not established by the entire city to adjudicate Dinei Torah, the litigant can say that he does not wish to accept their authority. If the Bais Din set themselves up to be three dayanim hedyotos, the litigant can request to go to a different place.

However, if the litigant refuses to accept the authority of any Bais Din, at this point he is considered to be a Mesarav Lavo Ladin, refusing to come to aDin Torah, and he can be sanctioned with Shamta. The person who is Mesarav Lavo Ladin is included in Shulchan Aruch in Siman 34, in the list of twenty four situations where a person deserves to be put B’Shamta.

US Jewish convert ends hunger strike after gov’t promises citizenship by 2023

Under the Law of Return, Jews who ask for Israeli citizenship can be denied if they have a criminal record, as in Ben Moshe’s case. That is what happened in November 2020, when the Interior Ministry’s Population and Immigration Authority rejected his request for citizenship.

THE FUNDAMENTAL QUESTION OF THE PANDEMIC IS SHIFTING

 https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2021/06/individualism-still-spoiling-pandemic-response/619133/

During a pandemic, no one’s health is fully in their own hands. No field should understand that more deeply than public health, a discipline distinct from medicine. Whereas doctors and nurses treat sick individuals in front of them, public-health practitioners work to prevent sickness in entire populations. They are expected to think big. They know that infectious diseases are always collective problems because they are infectious. An individual’s choices can ripple outward to affect cities, countries, and continents; one sick person can seed a hemisphere’s worth of cases. In turn, each person’s odds of falling ill depend on the choices of everyone around them—and on societal factors, such as poverty and discrimination, that lie beyond their control.

From its founding, the United States has cultivated a national mythos around the capacity of individuals to pull themselves up by their bootstraps, ostensibly by their own merits. This particular strain of individualism, which valorizes independence and prizes personal freedom, transcends administrations. It has also repeatedly hamstrung America’s pandemic response. It explains why the U.S. focused so intensely on preserving its hospital capacity instead of on measures that would have saved people from even needing a hospital. It explains why so many Americans refused to act for the collective good, whether by masking up or isolating themselves. And it explains why the CDC, despite being the nation’s top public-health agency, issued guidelines that focused on the freedoms that vaccinated people might enjoy. The move signaled to people with the newfound privilege of immunity that they were liberated from the pandemic’s collective problem. It also hinted to those who were still vulnerable that their challenges are now theirs alone and, worse still, that their lingering risk was somehow their fault. (“If you’re not vaccinated, that, again, is taking your responsibility for your own health into your own hands,” Walensky said.)

How Orthodoxy swung to the right

As Soloveitchik is clear, he bases his observations on the Ashkenazi experience. In response, the head of London’s S & P Sephardi Community, Rabbi Joseph Dweck, has pointed out that the “mimetic” tradition proved more durable in Sephardi communities, though noting that they have since “overwhelmingly succumbed” to “neo-Ashkenazi” influences.

Israel has more than 100,000 new COVID infections per day, says health official

 https://www.israelnationalnews.com/news/320324

Israel is likely to reach the peak of the current COVID wave within the next week or two, Prof. Eran Segal of the Weizmann Institute of Science predicted Wednesday.

Speaking with Galei Tzahal Wednesday morning, Segal said the number of new daily SARS-CoV-2 infections in Israel is already above 100,000, or roughly three times the number of new documented cases per day.

“We have already crossed the threshold of 100,000 new infections per day,” said Segal. “During this whole pandemic, we knew that there are more people getting infected than diagnosed. We undercount the real number by a factor of about three or four.”

DEADLY PFIZER SWISS VAX BATCH NUMBER :"EJ6796" SAD!
My 87 year old father and my stepmother were injected with this Pfizer lot number " EJ6796" for both doses in Jan and Feb. of 2021, in Glis, Switzerland. They both died in August of 2021.

Reports have recently surfaced to show that a mere 5% of all batch numbers were responsible for 100% of the 20,000 or so deaths reported to VAERS as of Dec. 2021. Sadly, my father and stepmother were apparently in this tragic 5% deadly batch group. This Pfizer vax batch-- EJ6796 -- had 115 deaths reported to VAERS, while the majority of batches had 0 deaths. Harvard has revealed that less 5% of all adverse events including death are actually reported to VAERS, so that the 115 total deaths shown for batch EJ 6796 may be far higher. I did not report their deaths to VAERS.
As a small boy, my father survived the blitz in England.

Rest In Peace --- all who died tragically from this poison batch!!

Note: I do not know why foreign deaths appear in VAERS.

The Awareness Center - not all allegations are true

 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Awareness_Center

The Awareness Center drew sharp criticism for publishing and publicizing rumors, accusations and allegations without verification. The Center routinely relied on anonymous blogs and other sources of dubious credibility to profile alleged sexual predators. Some who were listed by name were never sued or charged with any offense, or even accused by a verifiable source.[3][4][5][6][7]

Rabbi Mark Dratch, chair of the Rabbinical Council of America's Task Force on Rabbinic Improprieties and founder of the organization JSafe, which addresses domestic violence and child abuse in the Jewish community, withdrew his support from the Center because its use of unreliable sources was victimizing the falsely accused. "I wasn't satisfied with the threshold of verification. There are people who've been victimized and others who've been subject to false reports also being victimized."[3]

Rabbi Avi Shafran, spokesman for the Orthodox Agudath Israel of America group, also criticized the Center for using material from anonymous blogs. "The blogorai, as I call it, is the new way of making irresponsible accusations," he said. "Using a blog is a very easy and effective way of casting aspersions on people." Despite his words of general support for the Center, Rabbi Yosef Blau agreed, saying "since they are anonymous, they can say almost anything."[3]

Rabbi Tzvi Hersh Weinreb, executive vice president of the Orthodox Union and a trained psychologist, said that while the Awareness Center and the blogs "have served the purpose of keeping this in the public spotlight and keeping the pressure on established institutions to police their constituencies... I read everything with a grain of salt."[3]

Jeff Bell, writing in the July 2008 issue of Catalyst magazine, went further, accusing the center's director of misusing the organization as a tool for defamation:

She concluded, "I am sick and tired of the games being played by those in the Jewish Orthodox world who are attempting to discredit myself and The Awareness Center. Their hope is to continue to silence those who deserve to have their voices heard. It's important for us all to become educated consumers, and for the truth to be made public so we can learn, heal, and grow."

Biphasic Sleep - halachic Implications?

The forgotten medieval habit of 'two sleeps'

Biphasic sleep was not unique to England, either – it was widely practised throughout the preindustrial world. In France, the initial sleep was the "premier somme"; in Italy, it was "primo sonno". In fact, Eckirch found evidence of the habit in locations as distant as Africa, South and Southeast Asia, Australia, South America and the Middle East.
And far from being a peculiarity of the Middle Ages, Ekirch began to suspect that the method had been the dominant way of sleeping for millennia – an ancient default that we inherited from our prehistoric ancestors. The first record Ekirch found was from the 8th Century BC, in the 12,109-line Greek epic The Odyssey, while the last hints of its existence dated to the early 20th Century, before it somehow slipped into oblivion.
The period of wakefulness that followed was known as "the watch" – and it was a surprisingly useful window in which to get things done. "[The records] describe how people did just about anything and everything after they awakened from their first sleep," says Ekirch.

Was R Eliyahu's psak against Walder for rape and child abuse or only adultery?

https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=4618298561619441&id=314191358696871

Despite this, we checked, investigated and questioned thoroughly. Witnesses testified that he committed adultery with married women for many years and they were forced to divorce because they were prohibited from their husbands. We saw rulings from other Batei Din (rabbinical courts) about these issues and supported the findings with additional unanimous evidence. In addition, we heard recordings in his own voice that attest to serious immoral acts, and we found him guilty without a doubt.

Guilty of what?

and then after finding him guilty we

  1. We called upon Walder to take upon himself a path of teshuva. We sent people to convince him to repent, in order to prevent a huge Chilul Hashem (desecration of God’s Name) when his actions became public. Instead of repenting, he chose to threaten us through his messengers, just as they tried to threaten Rav Yehuda Silman shlit”a who paskened (ruled) that people to remove Walder’s books from their homes. It’s a pity that he doesn’t (didn’t) surrender and follow a path of teshuva (repentance).
Tshuva for what and how?

It seems clear from R Eliyahu's own words that his psak was about adultery  involving consenting women and there was no rape or child abuse. Thus this was not related to the expose in Haaretz - despite all the yelling and wailing, Nothing about rape either - statutory or otherwise nor sodomy

Fox News’ Steve Doocy Tells Unvaccinated Viewers to ‘Get the Shot’ (Video)

 https://www.thewrap.com/fox-news-doocy-covid-vaccine/

Fox News host Steve Doocy urged “Fox & Friends” viewers to get the COVID-19 vaccine on Monday’s morning show.

While discussing the spread of the more transmissible Delta variant, Doocy said, “If you have the chance, get the shot. It will save your life.”

Co-host Brian Kilmeade wasn’t sold: “You make your own decision. It’s available to everyone. We’re not doctors. You can say, ‘We got it,’ but I’m not gonna go there and give you other medical advice.”

"This idea that it's the pandemic of the unvaccinated, it's just a total lie."

 https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2021/nov/08/aaron-rodgers/no-lie-covid-19-largely-spread-unvaccinated-people/

Rodgers’ claim misses some key points — the pandemic began among unvaccinated people, before vaccines were available. Furthermore, highly infectious variants such as the delta variant were first detected in unvaccinated populations.

Scientific evidence and studies show that unvaccinated people are more than five times more likely than vaccinated people to catch COVID-19, and over 10 times more likely to be hospitalized or die from COVID-19.

Stop Calling It a ‘Pandemic of the Unvaccinated’

 https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2021/09/persuade-unvaccinated-protect-unvaccinated/620091/

Your refusal has cost all of us,” President Joe Biden said to unvaccinated people last week, as he announced a new COVID-vaccine mandate for all workers at private companies with more than 100 employees. The vaccinated, he said, are angry and frustrated with the nearly 80 million people who still haven’t received a vaccine, and their patience “is wearing thin.”

He’s not wrong about that. For people who understand that widespread vaccination is our best strategy for beating the pandemic, the 25 percent of Americans who still haven’t received a single shot are a barrier to freedom. Their exasperation is warranted.

But bullying the unvaccinated into getting their shots isn’t going to work in the long run.
