White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller sparked a controversy during a live CNN interview this week after claiming that President Donald Trump had “plenary authority”. Miller is under fire for saying Trump has "plenary authority"-the absolute power to make the decision- while discussing the deployment of National Guard troops to Oregon.
Plenary authority refers to a single government official having absolute power on a particular matter, reports The Independent. Plenary authority means complete, absolute, or full power to act on a particular matter, without needing approval or limitation from another body. In this case, it refers to when a president or governor claims full decision-making power within their constitutional limits.
