A rift appeared to open Sunday between some of President Donald Trump’s agency heads and Elon Musk, the billionaire tasked with reforming the federal government, over Musk’s demand that all federal employees state their weekly accomplishments or risk termination.
By Sunday evening, leaders at the Pentagon, Federal Bureau of Investigation, State Department, Department of Homeland Security and Department of Energy had all instructed their staff not to reply to an email that federal workers received from the Office of Personnel Management on Saturday afternoon with the subject line: “What did you do last week?”
By Sunday, even some Republicans had voiced opposition to Trump’s plan.
“If I could say one thing to Elon Musk, it’s, ‘Please put a dose of compassion in this. These are real people. These are real lives,’” Sen. John Curtis of Utah said in a Sunday interview on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “It’s a false narrative to say we have to cut, and you have to be cruel to do it, as well. We can do both.”
I'm a compassionate guy. I love the American people, and don't want their tax money to be wasted on frivolous expenses. If a government employee can't justify his job by describing what he does at work, then he has demonstrated that his "job" is nonexistent.
ReplyDeleteOnly Musk knows how to evaluate performance not the person's supervisors or members of his organization!?
DeleteUp until now there were no valid performance evaluations because only a billionaire who is pro Trump knows anything!
No one was supervising the supervisors. It was one big gravy train, on the taxpayer's dime. The party is over.
DeleteMusk knows nothing about competence. He is an anarchist
DeleteEven Trump cabinet don't approve of Musk's approach

I love how forever the government has been known to be a bloated, overstaffed machine full of people who, if they disappeared tomorrow, would never be missed and it would have no effect on productivity. But along come Trump and Musk to eliminate them and suddenly EVERY GOVERNMENT WORK IS ESSENTIAL and they risk its incredible efficiency.
DeleteAs for Musk, he knows nothing about competence? Give his track record of success, I wish I had his incompetence.
Wow! So when their is a problem with an agency we simply destroy it rather than attempt reform?!
DeleteThat definitely is a sign of comp
competent leadership!
A doctor who kills every patient rather than curing specific ailments!
Saving Money by destroying blindly all government might save money in the short run but it also destroys the country so the operation was successful but you killed the patient!
DeleteThis is the reform. You call it destruction because you have TDS.
DeleteAny good corporation has a guy who goes through the entire staff from time and time and asks each employee "What do you do and do we actually need you here to do it?" That is what Musk is doing.
Again, for centuries everyone has understood that government is a bloat, inefficient machine that employs way too many people and underproduces way too much.
Suddenly Musk shows up and you're "No, it's a streamlined machine and everyone is essential" as if we don't remember last month. Sure.
