Wednesday’s meeting at the NATO headquarters in Brussels was, on paper, about coordinating military aid for Ukraine and welcoming the new US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth into the international fold. In practice, it was a day that saw the Trump administration upend the alliance’s approach to this almost 3-year-old war, lay out a vision that seemed to deliver some of Moscow’s key demands, and leave NATO allies fighting to avoid the appearance of disunity.
Anyone who thought solving this war would be easy is an idiot.
ReplyDeleteFirst, for all NATO's whinging, they are treating Ukraine like the US treated Israel, giving it just enough support to keep it in the fight but not enough to win. Remember that the one significant Ukrainian advance in this war was made against the advice of NATO which disapproved of it.
As for Russia, there is no way they will retreat back to their former border. NATO isn't going to send in its forces to push it back and start WW3.
So do you want this fighting to just keep going on and on for years or do you settle for a lousy truce?
I'm wondering which Western country would be foolish enough to arrest Putin if he landed in their country? Most European countries, including Communist UK have said they'd arrest netanyahu. I'm wondering if they'd be willing to be attacked by russian missiles just to support the ICC?
